Mary Jo Catlett commence sa carrière en off-Broadway dans le mélodrame Along Came a Spider au Mermaid Theatre puis joue le rôle d'Ernestina dans la comédie musicale Hello, Dolly! avec Carol Channing. The film follows the plot of the TV series SpongeBob SquarePants, focusing on the anthropomorphic sea sponge of the same name (Tom Kenny). SpongeBob dreams about managing the Krusty Krab restaurant.
