Mary-Margaret Humes (born April 4, 1954) is an American actress best known in recent years for playing Gail Leery, the title character's mother on the WB television drama Dawson's Creek from 1998 to 2003.

Biography

Humes was born at Mercy Hospital in Watertown, New York. She attended Watertown High School ('72) and competed as Miss Thousand Islands in the 1973 Miss New York State contest. She won the Miss Florida USA pageant and was third runner up in the 1975 Miss USA pageant behind eventual winner and fellow actress Summer Bartholomew of California.

Her best known movie role is as the Vestal Virgin Miriam in Mel Brooks's History of the World, Part I. Humes has appeared on such television series as Grey's Anatomy, The Dukes of Hazzard, Matlock, Knight Rider, Murphy Brown, The A-Team, The Fall Guy, Hardcastle and McCormick, T.J. Hooker, Riptide, and Touched by an Angel. She was also a regular on the short-lived NBC series Eerie, Indiana in 1991. In 2000, she portrayed Hazel Show in The Stalking of Laurie Show, a made for television movie.

The movie follows 16-year-old Laurie Show (Jennifer Finnigan), a naive and trusting girl that became entangled in the lives of Lisa Michelle Lambert (Marne Patterson) and her boyfriend Lawrence Yunkin. Laurie was initially befriended by Michelle, who later turned on her after Laurie was raped by Lawrence. Believing that Laurie was lying about the rape and that she had pursued Lawrence, Michelle began harassing and stalking Laurie, often with the assistance of friends. This harassment culminated in Michelle murdering Laurie in her home with the help of her friend Tabitha Buck. Laurie's mother discovered the body and Michelle, Lawrence, and Tabitha were quickly arrested. Lawrence pled guilty and testified against the other two girls in exchange for a reduced sentence, with Michelle and Tabitha receiving life sentences without parole.
