Matteo Garrone is an Italian film maker.
Born in Rome, the son of a theatre critic, Nico Garrone and a photographer, in 1996 Garrone won the Sacher d'Oro, an award sponsored by Nanni Moretti, with the short film Silhouette, that became one of the three episodes that are on his first long film Terra di Mezzo in 1997. He won Best Director at the European Film Awards and at the David di Donatello Awards for "Gomorrah". His latest film Reality competed in competition at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival and won the Grand Prix.

Matteo Garrone sort en 2008 le film Gomorra avec pour vedette l'acteur italien Toni Servillo. Le film est inspiré du livre de dénonciation de la Camorra du journaliste napolitain Roberto Saviano. Pour ce film, Garrone reçoit le Grand prix du jury au Festival de Cannes 2008. Gomorra remporte aussi le prix du meilleur film européen aux European Awards.En 2012, sort le film Reality. Ce drame raconte l'histoire d'un homme participant à une émission de télé-réalité. Le film remporte le Grand prix du jury au Festival de Cannes.
