Mehdi El Mezouari El Glaoui (born 26 May 1956), also known as Mehdi El Glaoui, is a French actor, director and screenwriter. He is the son of actress Cécile Aubry and Si Brahim El Glaoui, caïd (local administrator) of Telouet and grandson of T'hami El Glaoui, pasha of Marrakech.

He made his acting début at the age of 5 in the TV series Poly, produced by his mother, and went on to reprise his rôle in numerous sequels covering 9 seasons until he reached 14. Another series Belle et Sébastien was dubbed into English and became school holiday viewing in the UK. Later he continued his career as an actor and also dabbled in directing.

He appeared again on screen in 2005 and 2006 for the first time in nearly a decade, on the France 3 programmes "12-14" and "Pour le plaisir" respectively, revealing that he now lives in near Dax, Landes, collects classic cars and runs a musical café.

Biography

Mehdi El Glaoui est le fils de l'actrice, romancière et réalisatrice française Cécile Aubry et de Brahim El Glaoui, fils du pacha de Marrakech Thami El Glaoui et de sa concubine turque Lalla Kamar Torkia, et frère du peintre Hassan El Glaoui, tous deux étant nés à l'époque du protectorat français du Maroc.

Il débute dès l'âge de cinq ans dans la série télévisée Poly, réalisée par sa mère et qui obtient un grand succès. Il jouera des rôles d'enfants puis d'adolescents dans des séries télévisées jusqu'à l'âge de 17 ans (de Belle et Sébastien au Jeune Fabre). Il entame ensuite une carrière d'acteur de cinéma et de réalisateur.

L'acteur fait une apparition en 2006 dans l'émission Pour le plaisir diffusée sur France 3. Il y révèle des projets pour le cinéma et évoque sa vie de comédien lors des tournages. Il y parle aussi de ses projets en tant que réalisateur de films.

Dans le film Belle et Sébastien (2013) de Nicolas Vanier, il interprète André, un chasseur.

In the French Alps, during the year 1943, Sébastien is a seven year old orphan boy living with César, an adoptive "grandfather" and his daughter, Angélina. The unusual little family lives in the small village of Saint-Martin, whose inhabitants, despite the German occupation, secretly organize the passage of Jewish exiles into Switzerland. The village is also plagued by a mysterious "Beast" who preys on the flocks of the shepherds and the inhabitants, including Cesar's animals. Sébastien is a very lonely child who is suffering from the absence of his mother. He believes that she migrated "to America, just over the mountains", and spends all his days in the mountains. One day, on the way home, he meets a huge dog, wild and completely discredited: it is the so-called "Beast". Sébastien is not slow to make friends with the animal, a female sheepdog, and names her "Belle" because he is struck by her beauty after she is cleaned up from the mud that she was coated with. Sebastian decides to keep his friendship with Belle secret to protect her.
