Michael Dougherty is a screenwriter who is known for his work with Dan Harris on the scripts for Bryan Singer's films X2 and Superman Returns. He's also known for writing and directing the cult horror film Trick 'r Treat. On October 28, 2013 at a special screening, it was announced to the surprise of the audience that a sequel will be produced by Legendary Pictures.

Il est né et a grandi dans la ville de Columbus dans l'Ohio, sa mère est originaire du Viêt Nam. Il fit des études de cinéma à l'Université de New York et y obtint une licence.
Il est connu pour avoir fait des scénarios avec Dan Harris pour le réalisateur Bryan Singer : X-Men 2 et Superman Returns. Il a réalisé son premier film intitulé Trick 'r Treat en janvier 2007 et Bryan Singer fut le producteur. C'est un artiste complet qui exerce ses talents dans divers domaines : écriture, animation, illustration et réalisation.
