Monu Mukhopadhyay or Monu Mukherjee (born 1 March 1930) is a Bengali film and television actor.

Biography

Mukhopadhyay was born on 1 March 1930. He passed Matriculation examination from Bharati Vidyalaya in 1946. In 1948 in passed IA examination from the Maharaja Manindra Chandra College then under the University of Calcutta. He debuted in acting with Mrinal Sen’s 1959 film Neel Akasher Niche. He has worked with notable film directors like Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen, Roland Joffe etc.

Riju (Dibyendu Mukherjee) is a doctor who was severely harmed when he got hit by a car. The car belonged to Saheli (Rimjhim Gupta), who is also a doctor. Saheli then tried to nurse Riju so that he came back to his health. She kept Riju at her residence for a period and as days passed, they fell in love. When Riju returned home, he discovered that his mother (Anuradha Ray) had died. He then went to Mathurapur when a doctor called him from there to inform him that a lot of villagers were ill due to consumption of spurious liquor. On the other hand, one day, Saheli came to know that she had cancer and she went to the "Painless Life Centre" and stayed there. Riju tried to find out the whereabouts of Saheli one day since they had not been in touch for a very long time. He landed up at the Centre one day and took Saheli back home as he wanted her to be by his side during her last days. She died after a few days.

Egaro is also the first celluloid tribute to the eleven Mohun Bagan players who won the shield, ten of them playing barefoot clad in folded dhotis with just one of them, Sudhir Chatterjee, wearing boots against a team with the right kit, boots, dress, infrastructural support and the typical bias of the White rulers against the coloured Ruled. But Egaro is not just about football. It is about the patriotic passion that drove these eleven players to unite thousands of Indians from the entire eastern regions who flocked in from Dhaka, Burdwan, Midnapore crossing barriers of caste, class, community and language to watch the players kick and beat up the British teams on the playing field without being punished by the rulers because it was all in the game. It is about the killer spirit where the killer took prominence not because it was a fight to finish, but because the final match was a battlefield where the winning could speed the movement against Imperial rule and towards freedom. It did, in a manner of speaking. After the historic win on July 29, 1911, the British felt pressured enough to shift its capital from Calcutta to Delhi on December 12 the same year.

The film is revolving round Rupak Chowdhury (Tapas Paul) and his mentally retarded brother Joy (New comer JOY) along with their step brother Rohit and sister Rinki. They live with their step uncle Ahi mama (Manoj Mitra) and his wife, who conspire against them. Joy was given poisonous medicines since his childhood by Ahimama and his Dr. friend which has damaged his nervous system. Nobody loves Joy without Rupak & their servant Harikaka (Kharaj Mukherjee). For a change Rupak takes Joy to their village where they meet two sisters Mukul (Rachana Banerjee) and Bakul (Swastika Mukherjee). Incidentally Rupak marries Mukul but when they return to home, the bad-guies deny to accept her as Rupak’s wife and continuously blame her for their sudden misfortune. Mukul leaves home with Joy to cure him. After consulting a doctor she sends Joy to “Ananda Ashram” under the supervision of Maharaj (Sabyasachi Chakrabarty). On the other hand, Ahimama sends his friend’s daughter Kitty (Locket Chatterjee) to woo Rohit but when Kitty comes to know about their conspiracy they kill her. Slowly Rinki and Rohit understand that they are being misguided by their beloved uncle & aunt, but it’s too late. Ahimama kidnaps Rupak and Mukul- Bakul’s parents & kills Harikaka. So Mukkul Bakul and Joy come to rescue Rupak, fight bravely but Rupak and Rohit both die while fighting. Joy kills his Ahimama, takes his revenge, then goes to jail, writes his autobiography “Lakshyabhed” in jail and then comes out from jail to live happily ever after with his family.
