Oscar Levant (December 27, 1906 – August 14, 1972) was an American pianist, composer, author, comedian, and actor. He was as famous for his mordant character and witticisms, on the radio and in movies and television, as for his music.

Biography

Oscar Levant s'installe en 1922 à New York, avec sa mère, Annie, juste après le décès de son père, Max. Il fut marié avec l'actrice Barbara Woodell. Il se marie en secondes noces avec l'actrice et chanteuse June Gale en 1939, et restera marié avec elle jusqu'à sa mort. Il eut trois enfants de son second mariage, Marcia, Lorna et Amanda. Il meurt à 65 ans d'une crise cardiaque et repose au Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery de Los Angeles. Il était hypocondriaque. Son épouse est décédée en 1996.
