Padmarajan (Malayalam: പി. പത്മരാജന്; 23 May 1946 – 24 January 1991) was an Indian author, screenwriter, and film director who was known for his landmark works in Malayalam literature and Malayalam cinema. Padmarajan was the founder of a new school of film making in Malayalam, along with Bharathan, in the 1980s, which created films that were widely received while also being critically acclaimed.
Padmarajan was noted for his fine and detailed screenwriting and expressive direction style. Padmarajan made some of the landmark motion pictures in Malayalam cinema, including masterpieces like Oridathoru Phayalvaan (1981), Koodevide (1983), Arappatta Kettiya Gramathil (1986), Namukku Parkkan Munthiri Thoppukal (1986), Thoovanathumbikal (1987), Moonnam Pakkam (1988), Innale (1989) and Njan Gandharvan (1991).

Gauri (Shobhana) the sole survivor of a tragic bus accident loses her memory. Admitted to a private nursing home, where she is diagnosed as suffering from 'hysterical amnesia' (retrograde amnesia), she falls in love with the doctor's son Sarath Menon (Jayaram). Vishwanathan (Jayaram), an innocent young man in Kochi for a job interview is mistaken by many for a hardcore criminal and is arrested by police. His similarity to the criminal is so accurate that even cops mistakes him to a local criminal. Luckily, George Kutty (Mukesh), the police inspector, happens to be the classmate of Vishwanathan, and gets him released. George Kutty explains Vishwanathan about the crimes done by the criminal, whose real name and background is a mystery even for police. Looking just the same as Vishwanathan, he has several criminal cases pending against him and is on run. Vishwanathan, joins a job in city and falls in love with his co-worker Ambili (Shobhana). Mohandas, his MD in the company one day has a visitor in his office, who again mistakes VIshwanathan for the criminal, which ends in losing his job. The problems faced by Vishwanathan continues, including the breaking down of a marriage proposal for his sister. Vishwanathn thus loses hope in life and decides to take revenge against the criminal. He imposters himself as the criminal and extorts money there by inviting ire of the criminal. Vishwanthan is thus chased by the criminal. In a bitter fight, the criminal is accidentally stabbed to death by one of his accomplices. But his body is mistaken to be of Vishwanathan's as a bag containing educational certificates and bank passbook was lying near the body. Vishwanathan on reaching home witnesses his family performing last rites. That night, Vishwanathan appears in front of his father and explains him the reality. His father consoles Vishwanathan and tries to take him inside the house. Vishwanathan refuses to go with him and decides to live as the criminal for the rest of his life as a sweet revenge for ruining his life.

Thampi (Thilakan) retired as an accountant from Indian Railway in mid-1980s following his son's death leads a solitary life in his ancestral house. Thampi's grandson Bhasker aka Pachu (Jayaram) had completed his medicine studies from Bangalore. Thampi is excited when his grandson Pachu, comes along with his friends- Lopez (Rahman), Renjith Menon (Ashokan) and Krishnankutty (Ajayan) to spend his vacation with grandpa. Their presence brings joy and happiness into Thampi's house. Pachu is engaged to a girl, Bhadra (Keerthy) who happened to be the granddaughter of Thampi's friend. During the vacation Pachu and his friends often goes to the nearby beach for a swim. During one such visit Pachu and Lopez gets pulled into the ocean and only Lopez manages to escape. The Police and the locals conduct a rescue operation in the ocean but in vain. It is believed among the locals that whatever that is taken by the ocean is returned on the third day (as meant by the title of the movie). Thampi refuses to acknowledge the fact that Pachu is dead and puts on a brave face, consoling Pachu's mother, his friends and Bhadra. Eventually the body is found on the third day. The funeral is held on the same day and Pachu's friends gets ready to leave the day after. They all visit the beach one last time to say goodbye to Pachu where they see Thampi arriving with priests to perform the funeral rites of Pachu. While performing the "bali", senile Thampi who lost all his hope and out of despair he takes the rice ball/"balichoru" in his hands proceeds to the sea. To everyone's shock Thampi along with the "balichoru" submits himself to sea and commits suicide.

The movie shows how a young woman Padmini(Madhavi) who is separated from her husband gets attached to a young orphan girl Gigi(Sonia) when they meet in a hospital during their stay after a bus accident. Gigi has lost her mother in the accident and Padmini decides to take Gigi with her. Gigi is not completely mentally stable and is a special needs child. Padmini brings Gigi to Dr. Padmanabhan (Mammootty) who after initial apprehension accepts Gigi in his institute as a student by the day. Gigi gradually improves and Padmini is peaceful. Padmini's separated husband Sethu (Lalu Alex) is still trying to win her back. The viewers are shown that Padmini separated from her husband because she lost her children due to an episode of reckless motorcycle riding from husband. Padmini decides to go back to Sethu and adopt Gigi as their daughter. However Gigi's special behavior annoys Sethu and Gigi starts to feel insecure about losing her mother again. The movie goes on to show Padmini's emotional turbulence.

One night at a dance bar, Joseph, a rich, but spoiled brat of a textile businessman offers a trip to his three friends to a brothel. Zechariah(Mammootty), Gopi (Nedumudi Venu), and Hilal (Ashokan), accepts the offer and sets out in Joseph's car. But on the way, Zechariah and Joseph gets into a fight and the trip gets canceled, with Joseph, leaving them back. But Zechariah decides to take both his friends to the brothel, though, he just has a vague knowledge of the route. The trio sets out on the next morning and reaches the remote village. The suspicious look of the villagers frightens both Gopi and Hilal, but Zechariah is cool in his moves. The trio reaches the brothel run by Maluvamma, which is actually her ancestral house. They enter inside the huge house, and is shocked to find few children playing and an old man scribbling something on a paper, without even bothering to take a look at them. The trio enters inside the house and comes across a girl who is both deaf and dumb. From her body language, the trio finds out that she is a prostitute kept by Maluvamma and Gopi gets wooed by her. Just in a couple of minutes, arrives Devaki (Unnimary), who is more ravishing and sensual. She informs them that Maluvamma (Sukumari) has gone outside with Gowrikutty, a new girl and will be back in few minutes. But the trio is shocked by the sudden entry of Bhaskaramenon (Jagathy Sreekumar), who asks them to vacate the house as a group of Muslims are planning to attack the house. He also shows them the injury marks caused a few days back in a riot and shows them the door to outside. On their way back, a group of Muslims surrounds and verbally abuse them. With Zechariah beginning to retaliate, they turn violent. But the leader of the mob, pacifies the crowd and takes them to a nearby tea stall and decides to consult with Moopan, about the next move. By keeping the trio under the custody of the mob, he reaches the house of Moopan (Kunjandy). Generally, the girls brought by Maluvamma are first enjoyed by Moopan and it was the opposition of Gowrikutty to be a prey to Moopan that caused all the riot in the village. Maluvamma, by the time convinces Moopan that Gowrikutty will be brought to him in a couple of days and Moopan is convinced. He orders release of the trio and Maluvamma takes them to her house. She lets Gopi to go for the deaf and dump girl, while Zechariah opts to play cards with Devaki and the old man. Hilal enters inside the room of Gowrikutty. But while trying to fondle her, she turns violent, making Hilal to forcefully go on for her. Hilal is shocked to find out that Gowrikutty is forcefully brought in to the business by Maluvamma and is still a virgin. He sympathizes on her and asks her to tell her story. She tells him that she was sold to Maluvamma by her uncle after the death of her father. It was only a few days after the arrival at the house that she realized that it is a brothel. On refusing to entertain the clients, she was brutally assaulted by Maluvamma. She pleads Hilal to save her from the brothel. He promises to take her out and marry her. But his plan to take her out is foiled by Bhasi, Maluvamma's son. Hilal tells Gopi and Zechariah about Gowrikutty and Zechariah promises him to help him in saving her. Narayanan (Achankunju), a pimp of Panicker, a local feudal landlord arrives and demands Maluvamma to release Gowrikutty along with him at night. Maluvamma agrees to it and asks him to come at night.That night, Gowrikutty refuses to go along with Narayanan, which enrages him. He returns to collect more people to avenge on Maluvamma. But she is now supported by Moopan, who sends a bunch of his henchmen for security of the house. A few hours later, Narayanan is back with a dozen of his goons. He is attacked by the goons of Moopan and a riot sets out. Zechariah decides to use this opportunity and stab Bhasi, making Maluvamma to come out of her room. Using this opportunity, Hilal and Gopi takes Gowrikutty and runs out of the house. While escaping, Zechariah is attacked by Narayanan. In an attempt to save himself, Narayanan stabs Zechariah to death. Reaching at a safe place, Gopi asks Hilal to run away with the girl and decides to go back to find out what had happened to Zechariah. He reaches out the house and calls out Zechariah's name loudly, but gets no response.

Namukku Parkkan Munthiri Thoppukal is a warm and lyrical motion picture centered around a Malayalee Syrian Christian-Nasrani ("Nazarene") family. It was based on the Malayalam novel Nammukku Graamangalil Chennu Raappaarkkaam (Let us go and dwell in the villages) by K. K. Sudhakaran (1986). The title of the film and novel is based upon a passage from Biblical book of The Song of Solomon or Song of Songs, Chapter 7:12: "Let us get up early to the vineyards." The protagonist quotes this passage at one point during the film. It stars Mohanlal, Shari, Thilakan, Vineeth, and Kaviyoor Ponnamma. The film is especially noted for the brilliant performance of Thilakan and also for the flowing and warm thematic music by Johnson. Mohanlal's portrayal of Solomon has brought out one of the most matured romantic characters in Malayalam Cinema.

Elizabeth (Sukumari) is a physical education instructor at a college and lives with her son Emil (Rahman) and unmarried brother Vakkachan (Nedumudi Venu). She is well loved and respected by her students. When she retires students suggest her to start a beauty parlour to keep her active and be in touch with them. Emil, who wants to upgrade his still photography business to video-graphy and Vakkachan who want to expand his pawn brokerage are apprehensive at first but then decides to help out. They start Eve's beauty parlour at home with all fanfare. But the appointed beautician turns out to be completely incompetent with some disastrous skin rash, hair dye incidents. Even her beloved students avoid her and an upset Elizabeth dismisses the beautician. Emil is sympathetic and advertises for a beautician through news papers.

Alice (Suhasini) is a teacher at a boarding school in Ooty. A prodigal and unruly son of a Member of Parliament Xavier Puthooran, Ravi Puthooran (Rahman) joins the school in Alice's class. Alice manages to mentor him into a good student. Alice's boyfriend Captain Thomas (Mammootty) feels intensely jealous of the attention Alice shows upon Ravi Puthooran.
