C’est l’effervescence dans le quartier : deux familles voisines fêtent, le même jour, un événement marquant. Les Rioux se marient après dix-huit ans de vie commune et deux beaux enfants. Les Clément enterrent Félix, aïeul aimé et respecté, dans la plus pure tradition antillaise. Les deux groupes relèvent alors le défi de participer au Family Show, un concours régional lors duquel deux familles s’affrontent sur scène en chantant des airs populaires. La compétition est dotée d’un voyage et d’une voiture.

En 1995, Olivia, une adolescente fofolle de 16 ans vit une grande passion avec un garçon de son âge, Matthieu. Elle est toute prête à lui offrir sa virginité, mais elle est renversée par une voiture devant une boîte de nuit d'où elle, son petit-ami, et leurs amis se sont fait refouler. Elle tombe dans un coma profond, qui dure quinze ans. Elle se réveille, en 2010, dans la peau d'une femme de trente-et-un ans, et s'étonne de voir ses parents tout fripés et une jeune sœur cadette, Iris, qui n'était encore qu'en gestation lors de son accident (avant son accident, ses parents attendaient un garçon).

Manga and Sory are two young men in love with each other. Manga tells his widowed mother of the relationship, and Sory tells his father. Both parents forbid their sons to see each other again. Sory marries and has a child. Manga's mother turns to witchcraft to cure her son, and he unsuccessfully undergoes a lengthy form of aversion therapy. He meets and becomes engaged to a white woman called Oumou. Both men try to make their heterosexual relationships work but are ultimately drawn back to each other. Manga's mother eventually gives her blessing to the pair and the end of the film sees Sory and Manga driving off together towards an uncertain future.
