Riccardo Broschi décide de faire castrer son petit frère Carlo, futur Farinelli, en maquillant cela sous la forme d'un « accident », afin qu'il puisse conserver cette voix cristalline sensationnelle sans laquelle la musique de Riccardo, qui est compositeur, ne vaudrait rien. Le jeune homme parcourt les opéras avec son frère. Une jeune femme, Alexandra, vient un jour demander aux frères Broschi de donner une représentation dans un petit théâtre anglais en pleine faillite. Ils acceptent. C'est alors que s'engage la concurrence entre les Broschi qui veulent sauver le théâtre et Haendel, l'ancien maître des deux frères et célèbre compositeur. Le théâtre gagne considérablement en popularité, mais Haendel tente par tous les moyens de récupérer la voix exceptionnelle de Farinelli. Haendel fait une allusion à « l'accident » qui a coûté sa virilité à Farinelli. Ce dernier découvre alors la vérité et la relation privilégiée qu'il avait avec Riccardo s'efface. Farinelli et Alexandra sont amoureux. Riccardo, qui cherche à se faire pardonner et à rendre une vie « normale » à son petit frère, fait un enfant à Alexandra, puis part s'engager dans l'armée. Il disparaît de la vie de Farinelli, que l'on voit, dans l'une des dernières scènes du film, embrasser le ventre arrondi par la grossesse d’Alexandra.

Guido Mauri (Claudio Cassinelli) travaille avec son ami Marco (Carmelo Reale) pour Rizzo (Martin Balsam), le chef de la mafia locale. Ce dernier les place sur le cambriolage d'une banque. Mais ce coup rate par la faute d'un appel anonyme à la police. Pour protéger la fuite de Marco, Guido affronte la police et est capturé, tandis que Marco s'échappe en se blessant à la jambe, contractant une blessure qui le laisse boiteux. Cinq ans plus tard, Guido sort sans avoir dénoncé Marco. Il retrouve sa compagne Maria (Olga Karlatos) et est peu de temps après attaqué par une bande rivale. Guido se défend mais Maria est mortellement blessé. Il apprend alors qu'Enzo (Alberto Squillante), le fils de Maria, a également été tué par la bande à Rizzo suite à un vol de diamants. Avec l'aide de Marco, il entreprend de voler les voleurs et de punir Rizzo.

The story involves the power struggles and sexual intrigues of a group of good-looking nuns at the Sant Arcangelo Convent and in particular the machinations of Sister Julia (played by former Miss Great Britain Anne Heywood) as she attempts, by any means possible, to succeed to the position of the dying Mother Superior. The nuns struggle with their vows of celibacy, some inclining to lesbianism whilst others invite male lovers secretly into their cells. Meanwhile a corrupt church hopes to benefit from an aristocratic donation to the Convent, before launching an inquisition into the lubricious and corrupt activities of the inmates of the Convent. There then follow graphic scenes of torture as miscreant nuns are stripped naked and tortured with a variety of devices in order to elicit a confession of their misdemanours. The film ends with a resonant condemnation of the power hungry and corrupt church by Sister Julia after she has been found guilty and compelled to take poison to end her life.
