Dans un pays de légende situé en Afrique, le roi Namar a construit un temple sur le site où se dressaient les mines d'or du roi de Salomon. Afin de maintenir la paix et le calme dans son royaume, il a interdit l'exploitation du minerai. Cette décision déplaît à certains dignitaires du royaume. L'un d'eux, Riad, propose à Fariza, une reine amazone d'une cité voisine une alliance afin de fomenter un coup d'état et de renverser Namar. Le coup d'état réussit et le roi est tué, mais sur les conseils d'Abucar, un homme resté fidèle à Namar, sa petite amie, Samara s'enfuit avec le fils du roi, un enfant nommé Vazma, avec pour mission de prévenir Maciste de la situation. Après plusieurs péripéties, Vazma et Samara trouvent l'hospitalité dans un village de chasseurs. Pendant ce temps Abucar est torturé par Riad et Fariza qui veulent savoir ce qu'est devenu le prince héritier. Les mines ont été rouvertes et sont exploitées par des esclaves à bout de forces. Maciste prévenu de l'évolution de la situation en ville y entre au moment où Abucar va être exécuté, il empêche sa mise à mort mais est lui-même capturé à l'aide d'un filet. Condamné à mort par écartèlement, il s'en sort mais après qu'il eut refusé les avances de Fariza, celle-ci l’envoûte en lui entourant la cheville d'un anneau qui lui fait perdre souvenir et volonté et l'envoie travailler aux mines comme esclave. Sur ces entrefaites Riad et Fariza ont retrouvé Samara prise dans une des nombreuses rafles qu'organise le pouvoir pour maintenir son quotat d'esclaves aux mines. Refusant de dire ou se trouve le prince héritier, elle est condamnée à recevoir de l'or fondu sur tout le corps. Mais Maciste qui a réussi à se débarrasser de son anneau à la cheville va intervenir à temps.

Sur la route vers leur prochain spectacle, cinq danseuses de music-hall, leur manager et leur pianiste sont contraints par la tempête d’abandonner leur car et de demander asile dans l'unique lieu habité dans les environs : le château isolé du comte Gabor Kernassy. Mais ils sont aussitôt mal accueillis et rejetés par sa gouvernante, son jardinier et le comte en personne. Giorgio Mainardi (Diulio Del Prete), a wealthy, middle-aged financier, lies dying in a hospital bed surrounded by his family. He has collapsed suddenly, coughing up blood. His last word is to his stone-faced family is, "why?" The doctor's diagnosis of Giorgio's death is an internal hemorrhage, possibly from a stomach or intestinal ulcer. The following day, Giorgio's daughter Rosie (Karina Huff) arrives at the Mainardi estate having taken a leave of absence from her college studies to attend the funeral and for the reading of the will. Rosie soon finds her entire family squabbling over the estate. Giorgio's stepmother Hilda (Frances Nacmen), refuses permission for an autopsy, and taunts her elderly husband, Giorgio's father Paolo (Paolo Paoloni), who is near death himself from a recent stroke and is unable to move or speak. Meanwhile, Hilda's son Mario (Pascal Persiano) is revealed to be having an affair with Giorgio's third wife Lucy (Bettina Giovannini). Lucy is only a few years older than Rosie, and is apparently the only one of the Mainardi family who shows any compassion for her presence.

A scientist studying an ancient crypt near a grand mansion accidentally unleashes an evil curse. The curse reanimates the dead buried in the area and the zombies devour the scientist. The American television news reporter Dean Miller (Hugo Stiglitz) waits at a European airport to interview a scientist about a recent nuclear accident. An unmarked military plane makes an emergency landing. The plane doors open and dozens of deformed people burst out and begin stabbing and shooting the military personnel outside; they prove to be resistant to the most grievous wounds and are relentless in their assault, stopping only to consume the blood of their victims. Miller tries to alert the public, but General Murchison of Civil Defense (Mel Ferrer) will not allow it. Miller tries to find his wife Anna (Laura Trotter), who works at a hospital, as the crazed assailants overrun the city, their ranks swollen by many of their former victims.

The wife of the Sicilian barone Francesco 'Cocò' Laganà (Bruno Scipioni) dies of heart failure while having sex with the lecherous gardener Fefè (Nino Terzo). Cocò marries a Northerner widow named Nadia (Maristella Greco), her beautiful teenage daughter Daniela (Sonja Jeannine) later moving to her stepfather's house. Both Cocò and Fefè (who is now married to Cocò's nymphomaniac sister Agata (Lucrezia Love)) make sexual advances to Daniela but to no avail. Meanwhile Cocò's heirship to a large inheritance is in jeopardy because his late wife did not beget him a child and Nadia cannot get pregnant, the Sicilian customary law barring a man without offspring from heirship.
