Prabhu (born on 27 December 1956) is an Indian film actor, businessman and producer who has predominantly appeared in Tamil language films. He is the son of veteran actor Sivaji Ganesan, while his son Vikram Prabhu is also a Tamil actor. After making his debut in Sangili (1982), the actor has played a series of leading and supporting roles, earning the Best Actor award recognition by the Tamil Nadu state for his portrayal in Chinna Thambi (1992).


Prabhu was born to actor Sivaji Ganesan and Kamala. His elder brother Ramkumar is a film producer and he has two sisters Shanthi and Thenmozhi. He is married to Punitha and has two children Vikram Prabhu and Aishwarya Prabhu, with Vikram making his acting debut in the 2012 film Kumki. While still in his first marriage, Prabhu had a live-in relationship with actress Kushboo for four-and-a-half years, and got married on September 12, 1993. The pair subsequently decided to split four months later.

Lingesan (Vikram) is a bodybuilder from the suburbs of Chennai, whose main ambition is to become Mr. India. He wins the title of Mr. Tamil Nadu, which gives him entry to the Mr. India pageant. He is infatuated by Diya (Amy Jackson), a leading supermodel. Diya is soon blacklisted and all her advertisement film contracts are cancelled by John (Upen Patel), her co-star in all her advertisements, after she constantly rejected his advances. Saravanan (Vishal) is a person in Ooty who runs a business of gathering people for politicians. One day he met Maya (Hansika) and fell for her. However, Rajshekar (Santhanam) also falls in love with her. Saravanan convinced Rajshekar to not fall for Maya by talking about the expenses high class people require. Rajshekar is a police inspector. Due to several mishaps caused, he was fired and started working as a hotel doorman. He was shocked to find Saravanan and Maya going out together. He asked Saravanan how he made Maya to fall in love with him. As Saravanan finished his story it was revealed that it was Saravanan who indirectly caused those mishaps to Rajshekar. Rajshekar enraged hired Kumaran (Vaibhav), who is a specialist in breaking other's love. Kumaran then sends Andrea Jeremiah who shows an edited photo of her and Saravanan together and how a child mistook Saravanan for her father. This causes a conflict in the relationship of Saravanan and Maya. Due to love failure Saravanan consumed alcohol and was unconscious. Kumaran who was also at the bar helped Saravanan and dropped him at his house. Saravanan's mother, Thulasi (Tulasi) who was ashamed of Saravanan's behaviour send him to meet his father Aalavanthan (Prabhu) and his younger brother Shakti (Sathish) at Madurai.There they meet Alavanthan and rejoins him. They also come to know that Kumaran is also the son of Alavanthan's ex- lover. Alavanthan reveals to his sons that they have 3 aunts (Ramya Krishnan), (Aishwarya), (Kiran Rathod). Alavanthan wants his sons to marry the daughters of their aunts so that their family could reunite once and for all. At first Saravanan hesitates but when he finds Maya is also a daughter of his aunt he agrees to the plan. The village people mistook them as police posted to their village, which helps the trio to sneak into their aunts house. There their uncles help them to create affection to their daughters. Their aunts daughters also starts to reciprocate love to the trio. Their elder aunt (Ramya Krishnan) decides to participate in the MLA election in their provinces, but villan Pasupathy current MLA of the provinces and ex-servant of Alavanthan's family provokes her by saying that if he lose to her he will work at her home as servant but if she loses her daughter Maya will be married to his son. Saravanan then helps his aunt to win the elections. However a few days before the elections Saravanan's aunts find out that saravanan's father is their brother Alavanthan who was seen as the murderer of their father. their hatred towards Alavanthaan results in them getting Saravanan and his brothers caught in police and Alavanthaan is hurt by his sisters' harsh words at him. He suddenly got a heart attack and is admitted in the hosipital. As Saravanan and his brothers are stuck in jail, his aunt had lost many of the peoples hope for voting her due to Pasupathy's evil plans in causing misunderstandings. Then Sarvanan uses RDX, to stop Pasputhy's evil plans. Then when Pasaputhy tries to bribe people with money, Sarvanan and Kumaran cause some mishap and the tables turn giving Periya Poonu the edge. There Pasupathy comes with a mob and tries to kill the whole family and take Maya, but Sarvanan and Maya unite in a different location, and then fights Pasupathy and his son giving the victory. It was also revieled that Pasupathy killed Aalavanthan's father not Aalavanthan. There Aalavanthan and the whole family unite, and Maya weds Saravanan.

Shakthi(Jayam Ravi) and Chinnasamy(Soori) are family enemies who fight over an election. During that time, Shakthi falls in love with Anjali, whom he later discovers is his enemies cousin. In Kolkata, prisoner Kathiresan "Kaththi" (Vijay), a petty criminal, helps the police capture an escaping prisoner Vivek Banerjee (Tota Roy Chowdhury), but he himself escapes afterwards. He goes to Chennai and decides to escape to Bangkok with his friend and fellow-criminal Ravi (Sathish). However, he drops this plan after meeting and falling in love with Ankitha (Samantha Ruth Prabhu) at the airport, who dupes him into believing that she wants to marry him after realising that he is having a crush on her. Later, Kathiresan and Ravi notice a man who resembles Kathiresan named Jeevanandam "Jeeva", being shot by a group of thugs. They admit him to hospital, following which Kathiresan decides to impersonate the injured Jeevanandam to escape from the police. Under the name of his doppelgänger, Kathiresan and Ravi enter an old-age home run by Jeevanandam with the aim of collecting ₹25 lakhs (which is meant for the inmates of the old-age home) for their Bangkok trip, until he learns about his doppelgänger's mission. Jeevanandam is a communist ideologue and a post-graduate in hydrology from the arid village of Thanoothu in Tirunelveli district who had discovered groundwater under some lands of the village which could be used as an irrigation source not only for the village, but for the entire Tirunelveli district and the neighbouring Thoothukudi district as well. But, an MNC owned by Chirag (Neil Nitin Mukesh) cheated the villagers into giving their lands for the construction of a factory. Jeevanandam was arrested by the police and the six villagers as for convince the issue with media and release of Jeevanandham commit mass suicide. On learning of the plight of Jeevanandam and the villagers, Kathiresan decides to fight for their cause while still under the name of Jeevanandam. The people of the old home and Kathiresan go to the jury and try to convince him to go in favour of them, but Kathiresan starts stating rules and scares the main jury person (whom Chirag had bribed). Kathiresan then sends a person (disguised as a hairdresser) to Chirag and makes him lay a fingerprint on Chirag's neck. After that Chirag sends 50 men to kill Kathiresan but he soon defeats them using the coins the villagers gave when he was attending a ceremony for him.

A dam in the village of Solaiyur, which is the lifeline of that village is under assessment for structural integrity by the Public Works Department. The dam inspector (Ponvannan) assesses that the dam is still strong 75 years after it was built. Later that evening, he is hacked to death by the corrupt local MP Nagabhushan (Jagapathi Babu), who wants the dam destroyed for his own benefit. The dying dam inspector throws a pen drive containing details about the proposed plan to destroy the dam into an abandoned Shiva temple near the dam and warns the village head Karunakara (K. Viswanath) that the temple has to be opened as soon as possible, after which he passes away. Karunakara and the villagers are of the opinion that the temple can only be opened by the descendant of Raja Lingeswaran (Rajinikanth), who built the dam as well as the Shiva temple. Lakshmi (Anushka Shetty), the granddaughter of Karunakara and a television journalist, goes on a search to find the Raja's descendant. She soon manages to find the descendant, whose name is Lingeswaran aka Lingaa (Rajinikanth). Lingaa is the grandson of Raja Lingeswaran, but is a petty thief with his family having now fallen on hard times. He holds a grudge against his grandfather, feeling that he had brought down his family into poverty by squandering all his wealth and hence refuses to go with Lakshmi to Solaiyur. However, Lakshmi implicates Lingaa in a robbery, as a result of which the police pursue Lingaa. Lingaa is forced to accept Lakshmi's invitation to avoid getting caught and travels with her to Solaiyur.

The film opens with Narayana (Prabhu) and his son escaping from a gangster (Abhimanyu Singh) who intend to kill them. The film then shifts to 2001 where a young boy named White, an orphan entering the Ongole market. He manages to catch the attention of many people including the chairman of the market, Adikeshavulu (Prakash Raj) who is god to the people of the market, with his tactical ways of business and establishes him as a Businessman there. Years later, White (Ram Pothineni), still a leading merchant in the market is the owner of four shops. On the innaugrational event of his fourth shop, he meets Sandhya a.k.a Sandy (Kriti Kharbanda), Adikeshavulu's daughter and falls for her. The MLA (Ahuti Prasad) wants to buy the market so he can shift it to a land on the outskirts of the city. During this it is also revealed that Adikeshavulu is not a good man but is pretending to be a good one. Whenever he returns home after difficultly pretending to be a good person he stands in front of the mirror and removes all of his clothes. Out of anger for Adikeshavulu not giving him the market, The MLA makes White the chairman of the market. Adikeshavulu beats the MLA to a pulp and makes him announce Adikeshavulu the chairman. When the White agrees on the condition that Adikeshavulu's daughter must marry him. Out of greed for the market, Adikeshavulu agrees and gets White and Sandy engaged. On the night after their engagement, White goes to Sandy's house to meet her. But she escapes from him and reaches outside the house with her grandmother and mother and complains on White. Just then, Adikeshavulu comes in drunk but controlled but White understands and goes away but his fatherlike business partner in a drunk mode reveals that White has a father who lives in Tripura. Adikeshavulu uses this information and sends his man Durga (Abhimanyu Singh) to find White's father. But at Tripura, Durga bumps into White while trying to kill an old enemy. It is now revealed that the 'old enemy' (Prabhu) is White's father and that White's real name is Dorababu. White's partner finds out and blames White of being the son of the person who murdered his family. It is now that White reveals his past. Years back, Narayana used to be the chairman of the Ongole market. Adikeshavulu was the brother of another man (Jaya Prakash Reddy), who envied Narayana and wanted his post. The man commits suicide as he could not get the post and taking pity, Narayana appoints Adikeshavulu his man and the market continues to prosper with Adikeshavulu pretending to be good. One day, Adikeshavulu starts collecting money from the sellers as the funds for building shelter and giving food for the sellers were insufficient. Narayana comes there, stops Adikeshavulu and tells him that he will give the money. Another man in the market who envies Narayana blames him of acting in front of the people and accuses him of telling Adikeshavulu to collect the money. But nobody believes him and continue to trust Adikeshavulu. Adikeshavulu kills the man along with Durga and it is revealed that it is he who killed his brother. White (Dorababu), decides now to take revenge. Meanwhile, Adikeshavulu kidnaps Narayana and decides to put him in a sack in the market and burn the market to ashes as he will get the insurance as profit. The market is burnt that night but White comes to save it and ends up chasing Adikeshavulu into the announcement office. There, Adikeshavulu reveals everything about himself, including the fact that he was the one who killed his brother, which White accidentally catches on the announcement mike. Everybody outside hears everything and charges at Adikeshavulu who ends up being killed by their beatings. The people welcome Narayana back in the market and finally he gets his post as market president back.
