En 1951, il fait sa première apparition au cinéma dans Die Frauen des Herrn S. . Il incarne bientôt des rôles de benêt. Les années suivantes, il joue dans des films musicaux comme Wenn die Conny mit dem Peter et Freddy, die Gitarre und das Meer .
En 1961, Wolter joue à côté de James Cagney et de Horst Buchholz dans la comédie de Billy Wilder, Un, deux, trois, un agent soviétique chauve. En 1962, il est présent dans le western adapté d'une œuvre de Karl May Le Trésor du lac d'argent. Il revient dans toute la série des films de Winnetou avec Pierre Brice et Lex Barker. Il est aussi dans les autres adaptations des romans d'aventures de Karl May comme Au pays des Skipétars, Les Mercenaires du Rio Grande : Le Trésor des Aztèques ou Die Heiden von Kummerow und ihre lustigen Streiche .
En 1975, il tourne pour la télévision comme dans Tatort, Le Renard, Ein Schloß am Wörthersee ou Küstenwache .
En mai 2002, il fait une manœuvre dangereuse sur la Bundesautobahn 24, causant un accident qui fait trois morts. Il quitte la scène. Il est ensuite condamné à une peine d'emprisonnement de dix mois pour homicide involontaire et conduite dangereuse.
En 2007 et 2008, Wolter joue dans Jetzt oder nie – Die Comedian Harmonists le rôle de Harry Frommermann , fondateur du groupe Comedian Harmonists.

Venant d'une famille d'artistes, après une formation d'acteur à Berlin, il joue dans des théâtres de Berlin et de Postdam. Sa passion pour les textes humoristiques et la musique le conduit au cabaret.En 1951, il fait sa première apparition au cinéma dans Die Frauen des Herrn S. . Il incarne bientôt des rôles de benêt. Set in the seedy parts of New York City, Killer Condom follows gay Detective Luigi Mackeroni (Udo Samel), who has been hired to investigate a series of bizarre attacks at the Hotel Quickie in which male guests have all had their penises mysteriously bitten off. While at the crime scene, he enlists the services of a gigolo named Billy and invites him up to the crime room. Before the two men engage in sex, a carnivorous living condom interrupts them and bites off Mackeroni's right testicle.

After the spectacular defeat of a fresh centurion, Caesar sends the patrician Lucullus to capture Getafix and throw him off the edge of the world. In Gaul, Unhygienix lacks fresh fish (as always), which starts a fight, spilling Getafix's magic potion. Because fresh fish is a vital ingredient thereof, Asterix and Obelix go fishing while Getafix gathers herbs, accompanied by Dogmatix. In the forest, Getafix and Dogmatix are captured by Lucullus. Aboard a Roman galley bound for the "world's edge", they pass Asterix and Obelix, who pursue them, using Obelix as an outboard motor until he is diverted by the aroma of food from a passing pirate ship, and then blown off course by a violent storm. After a long pursuit, a dolphin brings Dogmatix (whom Lucullus had dropped overboard) and guides them to the Romans. Seeing the Gauls and mistaking the North American coast for the world's edge, the Romans launch Getafix from a catapult, then return to Rome, while Asterix and Obelix make landfall. In Gaul, Caesar lays siege to their village and waits for the last of the magic potion to run out.

The story takes place in a little German town at the border to Switzerland. The owner of the local fruit-and-vegetables shop has been called up. His shop has a key function for the town's supply situation. His customers know from World War I how rationing can make the owner of such a shop very rich if only he's egoistic enough to get corrupted by well-heeled customers who don't care whether their poorer country fellowmen's families starve. So when his wife Paulina starts to run the shop alone, her character is subsequently of public interest for all citizens who are concerned about the well-being of their families during the ongoing war. Paulina shares the fate of other soldier's wives who constantly face the fear her husband might return crippled, maimed or not at all. But because her husband's shop is highly important for the town's community, she gets somebody who can ease her working load. She is also luckier than other women for she is still young and attractive. So is the prisoner of war named Stanislaus who must serve her. She obviously finds him handsome and relishes that he has to obey all her commands. So she decides she doesn't need to be one of the lonesome wives anymore. When she seduces him she finds him very virile and they sometimes celebrate their love even literally in the open. Finally a town's official informs her that her evident bliss leads other women to doubts about her integrity. Still she doesn't let go of her love affair although the town official keeps on warning her that under the prevailing Nazi laws her adultery is punishable as "Rassenschande". Paulina keeps on putting the Polish POW in lethal danger until he is finally taken to court and sentenced to death. Paulina is imprisoned for two years. Decades later her son and her grandson visit the still existing little town in order to confront the man who warned Paulina repeatedly but in the end let her go down. The both of them are appalled when they realise he still lives in the very town where the citizens forced him to take action on Paulina and he doesn't hide.

Tommy et Mike, deux amis, émettent régulièrement le lundi à 15h en radio pirate à partir d'un studio de fortune dans un appartement pour qu'il y ait autre chose que le service public et son "programme stupide". La radio est très populaire, sauf pour Müller-Hammeldorf, le directeur du divertissement de la Bayerischer Rundfunk. Compte tenu de la baisse constante des chiffres d'audience de son propre programme, il souhaite ardemment la fin de cette radio illégale. Il aurait été exaucé sans l'aide inattendue de la sœur de Mike, Irmgard. Elle présente aux animateurs un nouvel émetteur mobile qui tient dans un camping-car. Avec maintenant 200 kilomètres de couverture et de nombreux contrats publicitaires pour financer le projet, "Radio Powerplay" est relancé. A lieu alors un jeu du chat et de la souris entre l'estafette et la police. Afin de continuer à émettre, Tommy et Mike doivent prendre des déguisements, parfois bizarres. La confrontation finale se fait dans un pensionnat de jeunes filles. Mais au lieu d'une condamnation, le directeur des programmes de BR a une surprise pour les deux amis : il les engage à la BR. Tout se finit dans une grande fête.

In 1931 Berlin, young American Sally Bowles performs at the Kit Kat Klub. A new British arrival in the city, Brian Roberts, moves into the boarding house where Sally lives. A reserved academic and writer, Brian gives English lessons to earn a living while completing his doctorate. Sally tries seducing Brian and suspects he may be gay. Brian tells Sally that on three previous occasions he has tried to have physical relationships with women, all of which failed. They become friends, and Brian witnesses Sally's anarchic, bohemian life in the last days of the German Weimar Republic. Sally and Brian become lovers despite their earlier reservations; they conclude that his previous failures with women were because they were "the wrong three girls".
