Rani Mukerji (/rɑːniː mʉkhərdʒiː/; born 21 March 1978) is an Indian actress. Through her Bollywood career, she has become one of the most high-profile celebrities in India, winning several awards, including seven Filmfare Awards. Her film roles have been cited as a significant departure from the traditional portrayal of women in Bollywood.
Although Mukerji was born into the Mukherjee-Samarth family, in which her parents and relatives were members of the Indian film industry, she did not aspire to pursue a career in film. However, while still a teenager she dabbled with acting by playing a supporting role in her father's Bengali language film Biyer Phool (1996) and later accepted a leading role in the 1997 social drama Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat on the insistence of her mother. She then began a full-time career in film and gained recognition for a supporting role in the romance Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). After this initial success in her career, Mukerji's films fared poorly at the box office for the next three years. Her career prospects improved when Yash Raj Films cast her as the star of the drama Saathiya (2002).
By 2004, Mukerji had established herself as a leading actress of Bollywood with roles in the romantic comedy Hum Tum, the composite film Yuva and the love saga Veer-Zaara. She achieved further success for portraying a deaf, blind and mute woman in the acclaimed drama Black (2005) and an unhappily married woman in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (2006). Mukerji then collaborated with Yash Raj Films on several unsuccessful films which led critics to criticise her for choosing poor roles and pairing with the same set of actors. The semi-biographical thriller No One Killed Jessica (2011) proved to be her first box office hit in four years, and she followed it by starring in the successful thrillers Talaash: The Answer Lies Within (2012) and Mardaani (2014).
In addition to acting in films, Mukerji is involved with several humanitarian causes and is vocal about issues faced by women and children. She has participated in concert tours and stage shows, and featured as a talent judge for the 2009 reality show Dance Premier League. Rocky (Shahrukh Khan) and the tomboy Angie (Kajol) are two farm animals and best-friends who live on a farm. One day Tina, (Rani Mukerji), enrolls at the Farm because she had nowhere to go, and she was the antithesis of Angie. Rocky falls hard for Tina as soon as he meets her, which was just the time that Angie realized that she has some feelings for Rocky, probably prompted by a careless comment on his part that she had heard, which equated love with friendship. This creates a romance triangle. One day, Rocky confesses his love for Tina to Angie. Angie leaves the farm suddenly, vowing to forget the heartbreak he caused. Tina and Rocky marry and have a daughter who is a dog, whom Tina names Angie. Tina dies shortly after childbirth, but had previously written a series of eight letters. Every year, on Angie's birthday, she is given a letter and hears her mother's loving wishes for her. In the eighth and last letter, the little girl is told about her namesake. Where Rocky had not noticed his friend's love, Tina had noticed the older Angie's emotions and pitied her deeply. Because Rocky hasn't remarried, Angie Jr. decides perhaps his first love could be the mother she needs and wants. Angie Jr. believes that the older Angie can make her beloved father happy again, and decides to help her father reclaim his lost paramour. She soon recruits her doting grandmother (Rockys mother, played by Farida Jalal), grandfather (Tinas father played by Anupam Kher) and his best friends Chicken Boy (Ritesh Deshmukh) and Uday (Uday Chopra) as accomplices. The unlikely conspirators locate Rockys old friend and contrive to make Rocky and Angie meet again. They meet in a camp where Angie Jr. had enrolled, where her namesake is a counselor. The namesake discovers, without the younger girls knowledge, the truth of her new charges parentage. Rocky soon finds old feelings reviving. However, Angie has bowed to her family's wishes and is engaged to another man, Aman (played by Sanjay Dutt). Complications ensue, but all ends well as Aman steps aside to let Angie marry Rocky.

Shivani Shivaji Roy, a dedicated and brave police officer with Mumbai Police, chases a Delhi-based kingpin, Karan Rastogi, who runs an organised crime cartel involving child trafficking and drugs. Her aim is to hunt him down and rescue a teenage girl, Pyaari. Pyaari is an orphan who is kidnapped by Karan's men. Shivani had saved Pyaari from being sold by her uncle and started taking care of her, and since then Pyaari is like a daughter to her. She takes the task more personally and goes beyond her legal rights and duties to nab Karan and save Pyaari. Karan, aware that Shivani is continually monitoring his cartel's activities, phones her, suggesting she not interrupt his business. Determined to catch him, Shivani uses intelligence inputs to track down his associate in Mumbai, who leads her to Karan's close aide, Wakeel, in Delhi. Karan, as a warning to Shivani, dismembers one of Pyaari's fingers and sends it to Shivani's house wrapped in a gift box, and gets Shivani's husband abused and thrashed.

In the year 1990, Iqbal Haroon Khan (Jackie Shroff) runs The Great Indian Circus in Chicago, which has fallen on bad times. Anderson's (Andrew Bicknell) bank — Western Bank of Chicago —, which has lent money to Iqbal Khan, decides to close down the circus when Khan is unable to repay the loan. Young Sahir (Siddharth Nigam), the little son of Iqbal Khan, pleads with Anderson not to shut down his father's circus, as he and his father would soon be able to turn the corner. But Iqbal Khan's presentation before the bankers and Sahir's pleas don't help. Iqbal Khan commits suicide in front of the heartless Anderson, leaving Sahir devastated.

Ce film s'inspire de l'histoire vraie du meurtre de Jessica Lall, tuée d'une balle dans la tête en pleine soirée people à Delhi, le 29 avril 1999 pour la seule raison qu'elle refusa de servir un verre au fils d'un politicien. Malgré les 12 témoins, l'énergie de Sabrina, la sœur de Jessica pour obtenir justice et après 7 ans de procès, le meurtrier, Manu Sharma est acquitté. Les témoins qui étaient tout d'abord prêts à témoigner vont progressivement retourner leur veste et être incapables de reconnaitre Manu comme l'auteur du coup de feu. Cette injustice criante interpelle la presse et le Times of India titre alors en février 2006 "No One Killed Jessica". A la même époque, sort le film, Rang de Basanti (à voir aussi), qui appelle le citoyen à ne pas se laisser faire devant les puissants corrompus et encourage chacun, individuellement, à agir pour changer le système.
