Lucy opens in 1960, at the filming of the final Lucille Ball – Desi Arnaz Show (The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour). A small group of Roman Catholics believe Satan intends to become man just as God did in the person of Jesus. Writings from a seemingly-possessed psychiatric patient lead them to Peter Kelson (Chaplin). The group suspect it is Kelson's body Satan has chosen to occupy. The youngest of the group, Maya Larkin (Ryder), meets Peter to investigate further and try to convince him of embodied evil. The film takes place in an old, worn down insane asylum in Auckland, New Zealand, run by Dr. Marlowe (Roy Ward). He wants to prove that he’s been cured; Simon is a serial killer that has killed over a dozen different people. Natalie is an academically-focused student, with the intent of going to Duke University on a tennis scholarship. Natalie, with several other of her classmates, frequents an outdoors party place called The Brick. There, she bonds with Rafael, a new transfer student. Meanwhile, in chemistry, Natalie is paired with Keith, a carefree boy with a rebellious view of life. When Natalie asks Keith to help her with a lab report, he drives her out of school to trespass into an office building, bringing her into his easygoing lifestyle. Even though Rafael becomes Natalie's boyfriend, Keith persistently asks Natalie to go out with him, though insisting as friends and calling his offers "non-dates".
