Rex Ingram (October 20, 1895 – September 19, 1969) was an American stage, film, and television actor.

Biography

Rex Ingram débute au cinéma en 1918, passe sans problème du muet au parlant, et continue sa carrière (à ses débuts, sans être crédité) jusqu'à un dernier film en 1968. Il interprète deux de ses rôles les plus connus dans Les Aventures d'Huckleberry Finn (1939), avec Mickey Rooney, et Le Voleur de Bagdad (1940), avec Conrad Veidt.

De 1953 à 1969 (année de sa mort), il participe pour la télévision à plusieurs séries, dont deux épisodes (1967-1968) de Daktari.

Il se produit également au théâtre, à Broadway, entre 1934 et 1961, dans des pièces et comédies musicales. Parmi ces dernières, citons Un petit coin aux cieux (musique de Vernon Duke) en 1940-1941, aux côtés d'Ethel Waters — qu'il retrouvera dans l'adaptation au cinéma (même titre) de 1943 —.

At the family home in Los Angeles, patriarch Joe Lucasta learns that his friend Otis has sold a farm, distributing the proceeds to his children. Otis' son Rudolph is bringing his share to California, where Otis hopes that Joe can find a wife for Rudolph. Joe's son Stanley and son-in-law Frank hope to get the money by being the ones to find Rudolph a wife. Though uninterested in the money, Joe's wife Theresa suggests youngest daughter Anna, whom Joe put out of the house some time earlier. Theresa believes Anna is good and sees a chance for her to get a fresh start. Stanley, Frank and Frank's wife Stella regard Anna as a "slut", but will try to make her seem respectable to deceive Rudolph. Two hunters come into the jungle intent on killing as many animals as they can in order to get barrels of animal fat, lion skins and elephant tusks. Tarzan tries to help a baby elephant, one of their first victims. He takes the elephant to an animal doctor and his female assistant, who have pitched their tents in the jungle to do business. The hunters turn up and pretend they are photographers and have the doctor escort them to where the animals are. They leave the doctor and start killing animals. His assistant finds out what they're really up to and goes after them but needs Tarzan's help when she stumbles into quicksand. He rescues her, and she says she needs a bath so Tarzan throws her into the river.

Dane Clark plays Danny Hawkins, the son of a murderer who was hanged for his crimes. Haunted by his father's past, the young man is tormented by the young people of the small southern town in which he lives. Hawkins' only friend is Gilly Johnson (Russell), a girl who is quickly falling in love with him. When Hawkins kills a bully in self-defense, he fears the same fate as his father. When the dead body is found and Sheriff Clem Otis (Allyn Joslyn) starts closing in, Danny becomes crazed. He jumps off a Ferris wheel and nearly strangles a harmless mute (Morgan) who found Hawkins' pocket knife near the body. While hiding out in the swamps, Hawkins visits his Grandma (Barrymore) who tells him the truth about his father's crime.
