Richard O. Fleischer (December 8, 1916 – March 25, 2006) was an American film director.
Il tente d'abord de devenir acteur, mais il est engagé comme monteur de films d'actualités pour la RKO Pictures ; il réalise ensuite des courts métrages, puis des films de série B, et enfin des films à gros budget avec des grandes vedettes, passant en cours de route à la Fox et à la MGM.
En 1953, Fleischer est engagé par Walt Disney Pictures pour résoudre la complexité technique du tournage de Vingt Mille Lieues sous les mers (1954) en raison de son travail sur le format CinemaScope avec le film Arena (1953). Avant d’accepter, Fleischer demanda à son père la permission de travailler pour Disney. En effet, Max Fleischer avait toute sa vie travaillé pour des studios étant les concurrents de Disney. Max Fleischer donna à Richard son consentement et chargea son fils de dire de sa part à Disney qu’ils avaient très bon goût en matière de réalisateurs. Bien qu'il semble que techniquement le film ait rencontré plus de difficultés avec le tournage sous-marin, le format CinemaScope a été utilisé pour les scènes de mouvements du sous-marin Nautilus afin de renforcer l'effet dynamique. Ayant réussi avec Vingt Mille Lieues sous les mers, Fleischer aurait encouragé le studio à utiliser le format CinemaScope sur les longs métrages d'animation ; La Belle et le Clochard (1955) alors en production a bénéficié d'une sortie dans ce format.
Au cours de sa carrière, Fleischer a touché à plusieurs genres : film noir (Bodyguard dont le scénario est coécrit par un Robert Altman alors débutant, L'Assassin sans visage, L'Énigme du Chicago Express), péplum (Barabbas), comédie (L'Extravagant docteur Dolittle), western (Duel dans la boue). Il a également réalisé les films de guerre : Le Temps de la colère sur la guerre de Corée, et Tora ! Tora ! Tora ! sur l'attaque de Pearl Harbor, qui devait initialement être mis en scène par Akira Kurosawa. Il s'est aussi illustré dans la science-fiction. Outre Vingt mille lieues sous les mers, Fleischer signe Le Voyage fantastique d'après Isaac Asimov et Soleil vert d'après Harry Harrison. Ce dernier film, dont le ton est assez pessimiste, remporte un grand succès à sa sortie et est aujourd'hui considéré comme un classique du cinéma d'anticipation.
Fleischer fut moins heureux avec ses films biographiques. Che !, film sur Che Guevara réalisée moins de deux ans après la mort du révolutionnaire marxiste, connaît un tournage houleux et un accueil médiocre tandis que Incroyable Sarah, sur la vie de Sarah Bernhardt, ne fut pas jugé convaincant.
Fleischer s'est aussi livré à la reconstitution de certains faits divers ayant défrayé en leur temps la chronique policière ou judiciaire. Ainsi, La Fille sur la balançoire relate le scandale que provoqua, dans l'Amérique du début du XX siècle, l'assassinat de l'architecte Stanford White, événement que l’on retrouve également évoqué dans le Ragtime de Miloš Forman. Le Génie du mal reconstitue un fait réel arrivé à Chicago en 1924 et qui est également à la base du film La Corde d'Alfred Hitchcock : le meurtre de l’adolescent Bobby Franks par deux fils de bonnes familles et le procès qui s’ensuivit. L'Étrangleur de Boston, un des films les plus célèbres de Fleischer, porte sur la traque du tueur en série Albert DeSalvo. Enfin, L'Étrangleur de Rillington Place relate une erreur judiciaire survenue en Angleterre au cours des années 1940, l'affaire John Christie.
Fleischer est aussi le réalisateur de deux films en 3 dimensions : Arena en 1953, sur le milieu du rodéo et Amityville 3D - Le démon, en 1983, troisième volet de la série horrifique.

After being raped by the soldiers of Queen Gedren, a despot who had her parents and brother murdered for scarring the queen's face while rejecting her sexual advances, Red Sonja is visited by a spirit who grants her the strength to seek revenge. Having trained under a swords master, and become distrustful of most men, Red Sonja is found by Lord Kalidor, who takes her to her dying sister Varna. Varna is a member of an order of priestesses who were preparing to destroy a light-powered relic known as the Talisman that created the world and whose growing power now threatens it. However, Gedren's army and her aide-de-camp Ikol slaughtered the priestesses and took the Talisman while Varna was fatally wounded by the time she found Kalidor. Before dying, Varna tells Sonja of the events at her temple while urging her to find the Talisman and destroy it. After turning down Kalidor's offer to accompany her, seeing a storm in the distance, Sonya arrives to the now-ruined kingdom of Hablock. There she meets the young Prince Tarn and his servant Falkon, learning Gedren completely wiped out Hablock when Tarn refused to surrender. Tarn announces that he is raising a new army to crush Gedren and invites Sonja to work for him as a cook. She declines while told that Gedren is based in Berkubane, the Kingdom of Eternal Night.

Conan (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and his companion, the thief Malak (Tracey Walter), are confronted by Queen Taramis (Sarah Douglas) of Shadizar. She tests their combat ability with several of her guards. Satisfied, she tells Conan that she has a quest for him. After he exposes a pair of con artists with his partner Melanie (Candy Clark) in the infamous 112 Ocean Avenue house in Amityville journalist John Baxter (Tony Roberts) is persuaded to purchase the house by real estate agent Clifford Sanders (John Harkins). In New York City, Jess Robin (Neil Diamond), whose real name is Yussel Rabinovitch, is an Orthodox Jewish cantor performing at the synagogue of his imperious father Cantor Rabinovitch (Laurence Olivier). Yussel is married to his childhood sweetheart Rivka (Catlin Adams) and has settled down to a life of religious devotion to the teaching of his faith; as a sideline, he writes songs for a black vocal quartet, "The Four Brothers". One night after Maariv, Yussel is recruited by the group to cover for one of the members who is in trouble with the law and must wear blackface and an Afro wig as it is a strictly all-black venue. The group performs "You Baby" and the engagement is a success, but an audience member (Ernie Hudson) notices that Yussel's hands are white, sparking a riot in which the band is arrested. Cantor Rabinovitch goes to the jail to bail them out but finds there is not a Yussel Rabinovitch there, only a Jess Robin. Yussel explains his use of a stage name, but his father informs him that his singing voice is to be used for God's purposes, not his own. Yussel/Jess decides to relent and do whatever his father wants, at least for now.

Ashanti is an action adventure film, set against the background of modern day slave trading, with a man who determinedly takes on a perilous journey in order to find his beautiful wife, who has been kidnapped by brutal slave traders. David and Anansa Linderby (Caine and Johnson respectively) are doctors with the World Health Organization. On a medical mission carrying out an inoculation programme, they visit a West African village. While David takes photographs of tribal dancers, Anansa goes swimming alone. She is attacked and abducted by slave traders led by Suleiman (Peter Ustinov), who mistake her for an Ashanti tribeswoman. The police can do nothing to find her and David has almost given up hope when he hears rumours that Anansa has been kidnapped by Sulieman to be sold to Arab Prince Hassan (Omar Sharif). The African authorities deny that the slave trade even exists. So David must find help in a shadowy world where the rescuers of slaves are just as ruthless as the traders themselves. As David tracks her across Africa and the Sahara desert, he is helped by a member of the Anti-Slavery League (Rex Harrison), a mercenary helicopter pilot (William Holden), and Malik (Kabir Bedi) a tribesman who is seeking revenge on Suleiman.

In 16th Century London, a pauper called Tom Canty reads to a group a children but is attacked and threatened by his cruel father John Canty to steal five shillings by suppertime or get beaten. Tom goes into the city square and steals a purse from a rich man, but drops it after bumping into another man. Thinking that Tom still has the purse, the rich man and other men chase Tom through the streets of London. Tom escapes by climbing up a wall and through a window, where he falls into a palace garden in front of King Henry VIII, who sets the guards on him. However, Tom outruns them by going to the roof of the castle and hiding in a chimney. In the grounds, Henry VIII orders for The Duke of Norfolk to be arrested during the masked ball that evening.

The movie is set in the Deep South of the United States prior to the American Civil War. Falconhurst is a run-down plantation owned by widower Warren Maxwell (James Mason) and largely run by his son, Hammond (Perry King). Hammond and a friend go to a brothel where both men choose to have sex with virgin black women. Hammond chooses Ellen (Brenda Sykes). Hammond and Ellen watch as Hammond's friend abuses and rapes his choice, claiming that she likes it. Hammond asks Ellen if this is true, and she says no.
