Roger Avon (23 November 1914 – 21 December 1998) was a British film and television actor born in Jarrow, County Durham.
Some of his television appearances include Hancock's Half Hour, Dad's Army, When the Boat Comes In, Department S, Doctor Who (serials The Crusade and The Daleks' Master Plan), Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased), Our Friends in the North and Blackadder the Third. He appeared in the films Daleks - Invasion Earth 2150 AD, The Likely Lads, Mutiny on the Buses, Quatermass and the Pit and Curse of the Crimson Altar, among others.
Avon was still acting up until his death, aged 84, his last role being in the TV series Grafters, starring Robson Green.

The Dresser opens with a performance of King Lear at a regional theatre in England during the last days of World War II. In the title role is an ageing, once-famous Shakespearean actor identified to us only as "Sir" (Albert Finney). He is of the old, bombastic school of British acting, full of grand gestures and fine oratory. As the curtain comes down on the last act, and as the actors line up for their curtain call, Sir lectures them on the mistakes they've made during the performance, showing us that he is the leader of this travelling band of actors bringing Shakespeare to the provinces during wartime.

Mildred decides that she and George will celebrate their wedding anniversary in style at a swanky London hotel - however unhappy George might be at the cost involved. "I'm a traffic warden, not Aristotle Onassis", he tells her. But on arrival, George is taken for a ruthless hit-man by a shady businessman (Stratford Johns), who wants a rival eliminated. Bus driver Stan Butler (Reg Varney) agrees to marry Susy (Janet Mahoney), much to the anguish of the rest of the family. Arthur loses his job so Stan, as the main money earner, agrees to delay the wedding while teaching Arthur to drive a bus. Meanwhile there is mutiny at the depot when the Depot Manager installs a new radio control system in all the buses (borrowing an idea previously used in the episode "Radio Control"). Jack (Bob Grant) tampers with the radio system and crosses the wires with the police frequency and several misunderstandings ensue. Blakey is then issued with a van to follow the buses around their routes, but when Stan and Jack accidentally cause a fire in the bus depot, the van is crushed between two buses in the ensuing chaos. The fire highlights the inadequacies of the depot's fire fighting equipment, which the general manager orders to be upgraded. Blakey stages a fire drill with the new equipment, but it goes spectacularly wrong when the foam machine goes out of control.

Workers building an extension to the London Underground at Hobbs End dig up skeletal remains. Palaeontologist Dr Matthew Roney (James Donald) is called in and deduces that they are the remnants of a group of apemen over five million years old, more ancient than any previous finds. While Miss Marple (Margaret Rutherford) and Mr Stringer (Stringer Davis) are soliciting donations for a charity, they visit Mr. Enderby (Finlay Currie), a rich and eccentric recluse. In the depths of the Amazon jungle, a carnivorous tree feeds on the blood of women, and generates a fluid that can bring the dead back to life.
