Biography
He was married twice, first to actress, director and casting agent Daphne Rye between 1932 and 1946, then to Nan Hopkins from 1947 until his death of a heart attack in 1984. He had two children with his first wife, actor Michael Culver and Robin Culver.Best films

A new wing at Britannia Hospital is to be opened, and the Queen Mother – referred to as HRH – is due to arrive. The administrator of the hospital, Potter (Leonard Rossiter), is confronted with demonstrators protesting against an African dictator who is a VIP patient, striking ancillary workers (opposed to the exotic gastronomic demands of the hospital's private patients) and a less-than-cooperative Professor Millar (Graham Crowden), the head of the new wing. Rather than cancel the royal visit, Potter decides to go out and reason with the protestors. He strikes a deal with the protest leader — the private patients of Britannia Hospital are to be ejected and, in return, the protestors allow a number of ambulances into the hospital. However, unbeknown to the protestors, these ambulances actually contain the Queen Mother and her entourage.

Frollo, l'archidiacre de Notre Dame est tombé amoureux de la gitane Esméralda. Accusée de vol il lui accorde l'asile mais elle refuse ses avances et s'enfuit. Quasimodo le sonneur de cloches difforme et bossu la rattrape, Pierre Gringoire, un poète de rue tente de la faire échapper mais se fait assommer par Quasimodo. Ce dernier est finalement intercepté par les hommes de la garde royale commandé par Phoebus. Esmeralda tombe amoureuse de ce dernier. Pendant ce temps Pierre Gringoire est capturé par l'assemblé des voleurs et des vagabonds qui le condamne à la pendaison. Esméralda refuse ce jugement et le prend pour époux (pendant quatre ans) uniquement pour lui sauver la vie. Quasimodo est condamné à recevoir le fouet et à être exposé au pilori, Esméralda a pitié de lui et lui donne à boire. Frollo, apprenant qu'Esméralda a rendez-vous dans un hôtel borgne avec Phoebus se rend sur les lieux et poignarde le militaire. Esméralda est capturée, soupçonnée, torturée, jugée et condamnée à la pendaison. Quasimodo la sauve et la fait se réfugier dans l'église. Phoebus a survécu mais se refuse à intervenir pour casser la condamnation d'Esméralda qui repousse toujours les avances de Frollo. Ce dernier demande donc au parlement un édit annulant le droit d'asile de la jeune femme. Apprenant la nouvelle, Gringoire pousse l'assemblée des voleurs et des vagabonds à attaquer la cathédrale pour tenter de sauver la jeune femme. Quasimodo se méprenant sur les intentions des assaillants les empêche d'entrer en lançant de lourds projectiles.

The film focuses on the courtship and marriage of aging Greek Theo Tomasis, who rose from his humble peasant roots to become an influential mogul who owns oil tankers, airlines, and Mediterranean islands and longs to be elected President of Greece, and considerably younger Liz Cassidy, the beautiful widow of the assassinated President of the United States. The two first meet when she is visiting his island estate with her husband James, the charismatic Senator from the state of Massachusetts. Theo immediately is attracted to her and, despite the fact she obviously is happily married, begins to woo her aboard his yacht while her husband is deep in conversation with the former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. Joseph Rearden, a British Intelligence agent, arrives in London and makes a rendezvous with MacKintosh, the head of his organisation, in a discreet office located just off Trafalgar Square. MacKintosh and his deputy, Mrs Smith, inform him of a simple way to steal diamonds which are transported via the post service to avoid attention. This he does, apparently getting successfully away after punching a postman, and making off with the diamond-filled parcel. However, that evening, in his hotel room he is paid a visit by two Metropolitan Police detectives who have received an anonymous phone call advising them about the robbery. They are unconvinced by Rearden's pretence to be an innocent Australian who had recently arrived in London.

The mysterious Michael Rimmer (Cook) appears at a small and ailing British advertising agency, where the employees assume he is working on a time and motion study. However, he quickly begins to assert a de facto authority over the firm’s mostly ineffectual staff and soon acquires control of the business from the incompetent boss Ferret (Arthur Lowe). Rimmer then succeeds in establishing the newly invigorated firm as the country’s leading polling agency, and begins to make regular TV appearances as a polling expert. He subsequently moves into politics, acting as an adviser to the leader of the Tory opposition, and then becomes an MP himself, for the constituency of Budleigh Moor (a reference to Cook's frequent collaborator, Dudley Moore), along the way acquiring a trophy wife (Vanessa Howard). Relying on a combination of charisma and deception—and murder—he then rapidly works his way up the political ladder to become prime minister (after throwing his predecessor off an oil rig), and finally, by public demand, a near-dictatorial president. Ferret attempts to assassinate Rimmer as he and his wife ride through the capital in an open-topped convertible, but fails and falls to his death.

Sir Guy Grand (Peter Sellers), an eccentric billionaire, together with his newly adopted heir (formerly a homeless derelict), Youngman Grand (Ringo Starr), start playing elaborate practical jokes on people. A big spender, Grand does not mind handing out large sums of money to various people, bribing them to fulfill his whims, or shocking them by bringing down what they hold dear. Their misadventures are designed as a display of father Grand to his adoptive charge that "everyone has their price"—it just depends on the amount one is prepared to pay. They start from rather minor spoofs, like bribing a Shakespearean actor (Laurence Harvey) to strip during a stage performance of Hamlet, and convincing a traffic warden (Spike Milligan) to take back a parking ticket and eat it (delighted by the size of the bribe, he eats its plastic cover too) and proceed with increasingly elaborate stunts involving higher social strata and wider audiences. As their conversation reveals, Grand sees his plots as 'educational' ("Well, you know, Youngman, sometimes it's not enough merely to teach. One has to punish as well").
