Ryūnosuke Tsukigata (月形龍之介, Tsukigata Ryūnosuke, 18 March 1902 – 30 August 1970) was a Japanese actor known especially for his work in jidaigeki in film and television. His real name was Kiyoto Monden.

Biography
Né dans la préfecture de Miyagi, Tsukigata entre à l'école d'acteurs de la Nikkatsu en 1920 mais obtient son premier rôle important avec les studios de Shōzō Makino en 1924. Il devient une vedette dans les films du genre chanbara mais s'attire des ennuis lorsqu'il s'enfuit avec Teruko Makino, la fille de Makino, alors qu'il est marié. Il quitte finalement Teruko et retourne au bercail mais le quitte de nouveau afin de lancer sa propre société de production, qui échoue rapidement. Tsukigata continue de travailler pour différents studios et apparaît dans des films réalisés par des maîtres tels que Daisuke Itō, Mansaku Itami et Hiroshi Inagaki. Il est probablement connu du public étranger pour avoir incarné le rival de Sanshiro dans Sanshiro Sugata d'Akira Kurosawa. Après la Seconde Guerre mondiale, il joue des seconds rôles pour les studios de la Tōei mais interprète également des personnages de premier plan comme Tokugawa Mitsukuni (Mito Kōmon) au cinéma et à la télévision.Ryūnosuke Tsukigata est apparu dans près de 500 films entre 1923 et 1969.

Sous le règne de l'empereur Suzaku (930-946), divers malheurs surviennent suite à l'apparition d'un étrange arc-en-ciel blanc au-dessus de Kyoto. L'Empereur charge Yasunori, un astronome réputé, de consulter un certain livre de secrets chinois afin d'apaiser les craintes du peuple. Yasunori a deux disciples, Yasuna et Doman, mais son vœu le plus cher est que ce soit Yasuna qui lui succède car Doman n'est intéressé que par le pouvoir. Avec l'aide de la femme de Yasunori, Doman fait assassiner son maître par son complice Akuemon. The samurai Sakawa Kojūrō is on the road to Edo with his two servants Genta and Genpachi. Kojūrō is a kindly master, but his character totally changes when he consumes alcohol. On the road, they encounter many different people: a traveling singer with her child, a father taking his daughter Otane to be sold into prostitution, a pilgrim, a policeman searching for a notorious thief, and Tōzaburō, the suspicious man the officer has his eyes on. Genpachi, the spear carrier, is also followed by an orphaned boy named Jirō who wants to be a samurai. When Kojūrō and Genpachi inadvertently capture the thief—who was the pilgrim in disguise—Kojūrō is disgusted when the authorities praise him and not his servant, even though Genpachi probably contributed more. He is also upset that he does not have the money to save Otane from being sold. In the end it is Tōzaburō who saves Otane, using the money he saved to rescue his own daughter, but decided to use for Otane after finding out his daughter had died. Depressed, Kojūrō takes Genta out drinking, despite the protests of the latter. When a band of boisterous samurai complain of Kojūrō drinking with someone of lower birth, Kojūrō gets upset. The samurai pull their swords and kill both the servant and his master. Genpachi arrives too late, but in a fury kills all the samurai with the spear. Authorities do not charge him with a crime, so he heads home carrying the ashes of Kojūrō and Genta. When Jirō tries to follow him, he shoos him off, telling him never to become a samurai.

Japon, 1905. Matsugoro est un pauvre conducteur de pousse-pousse. Sa vivacité d'esprit et son tempérament optimiste en font une personne appréciée des habitants de sa ville. Kumoemon Tōchūken, le célèbre conteur naniwa-bushi, descend du train qui l'emmène à Tokyo de manière inexplicable à Shizuoka, provoquant la panique dans la troupe qui l'accompagne. Il est en effet attendu dans la capitale, après plusieurs années de tournée dans tout le pays. Son ami Kurata vient à sa rencontre, il pense qu'il craint de retourner dans la ville qu'il a fui huit ans auparavant, en abandonnant sa première femme et son fils Sentarō. Kumoemon Tōchūken passe la nuit à boire puis revoit son fils venu avec Kurata. Il décide au soulagement de tous de repartir le lendemain pour Tokyo.
