Salim Kumar (born on 10 October 1969) is a National Award winning Indian film actor and mimic predominantly acting in Malayalam cinema. He is one of the prominent comedian actors of the current generation in Malayalam cinema, but has shown his versatility in the drama genre of films, such as Achanurangatha Veedu, Gramophone, Perumazhakkalam and Adaminte Makan Abu.

Salim Kumar's role as Abu in Adaminte Makan Abu won him both the National Award and Kerala State award for Best Actor for the year 2010. Earlier he had won a Kerala State Film Award for the Second Best Actor in 2005 for his role as Samuel in Achanurangatha Veedu.

Biography

He is settled in North Paravur-Ernakulam District. The name of his house is "Laughing Villa". He is married to Sunitha and the couple have two sons, Chandu and Aromal. He allies with the UDF party in Kerala, especially with the late political leader K. Karunakaran. He has written his memoirs in a book named Ishwara Vazhakkillello.
He conducts a mimicry troupe named Cochin Stallions which introduced cine-serial actor Ramesh Pisharody and many other talents into the limelight.

The film is a partially fictionalized representation of the environmental disaster caused by the misuse of endosulfan pesticide in Kasaragod District of Kerala in India. This disaster was caused by nearly two and a half decades of endosulfan use on government-owned cashew plantations. The film explores the disastrous environmental and public health consequences of the pesticide misuse. It also concentrates on those health-related effects of endosulfan misuse, that persist to this day.

The movie starts off with Narendan Achari(Salim Kumar) at a shop with his daughter who has been treated with brain tumour. He is distracted for some time during which his daughter goes missing. In a frenzy he rushes to the nearest police station but is frustrated at their lack of efforts at finding her. Later he is seen driving away in his car and causing an accident involving a petroleum tanker. There are casualties and the police and the fire force arrive and try to contain the situation. However, the tanker springs a leak and a police officer inadvertly causes an explosion despite Asams' best efforts to thwart this. Asams is wounded in the ensuing explosion destroying his lower body. Fire man Vijay(Mammooty) appears heroically to the scene and takes over the reins of the disaster avertment plans that Colin Francis had been heading previously. Vijay and the police force clashes as to what action plan to take. In the ensuing fight Vijay is given full reins of the project and a humiliated Colin chooses to depart from the scene with his long time girlfriend Jyo. As the film progresses it is found that this had all been the master project of a man identified only as Kanjan to break someone out of the central jail. However the force is left with no option but to vacate the jail which is when Kanjan has decided to break the prisoner. Vijay locks himself in the jail in order to find out who the wannabe free prisoner is and finds the culprit successfully thwarting a major disaster.

The story of Kunjananthante Kada is set in a village around the Mattannur-Iritty area of Kannur, Kerala. Kunjananthan (Mammootty) manages a provision store the village.
