During the 1960s Kellerman underwent a botched home abortion, and went to a hospital for the first time (due to her Christian Science upbringing).

When Diana moved to southern France, she left Claire in the care of Kellerman and Claire's father; when Claire's father died, Kellerman received full custody.
On May 11, 1980, Kellerman married Jonathan D. Krane in a private ceremony at Jennifer Jones' Malibu home. In 1989, they adopted newborn twins Jack and Hannah.
