Oft-married Gemma visits Sarajevo with her only child, Pietro. The two of them had escaped the city sixteen years ago, just days after his birth during the Bosnian War. Diego, her second husband and Pietro's father, remained behind and later died. As they travel with her wartime friend Gojco, she tries to repair her relationship with Pietro, asking her third husband (by phone) if she should tell Pietro that she did not give birth to him. Gemma is later stunned by the revelation that Pietro's real mother, Aska, is still alive and married to Gojco. Aska reveals that, contrary to Gemma's long held belief, Diego was not Pietro's father, as she had been a sex slave to a garrison of the Serb Volunteer Guard. Gemma must face loss, the cost of war and the redemptive power of love.

Ten years in the future, TV producer Filip Dogan (Sven Medvešek) starts Housed!, a reality show featuring six couples who live in an isolated, Big Brother-like house in Zagreb for 180 days. The ratings are poor until international tensions between Western countries and their unidentified Asian rival escalate into a global war which turns the entire European continent into a battlefield. Military aircraft are flying over Zagreb, and some of the city's landmarks, such as Zagreb Cathedral and Cibona Tower, are in ruins.

The film has been described as a "lighthearted comedy" and centers on Melita Žganjer (Mirjana Rogina), a 30-something single woman who works as a vendor in a small cake shop in Zagreb. Melita is infatuated with Juan (Filip Šovagović), a character in a popular Spanish telenovela aired on local TV, and at the same time tries to get Janko (Goran Navojec), the cake delivery man, to notice her. Her affection for Janko goes unnoticed and Melita turns to Jura (Ivo Gregurević), a police officer and colleague of her roommate Eva (Sanja Vejnović). However, Melita soon finds Jura's interest in her superficial and, upon hearing that Juan would come to Zagreb to play an UNPROFOR soldier in a locally produced film dealing with the Croatian War of Independence, Melita succeeds in meeting him, but is immediately disappointed as the Spanish actor is nothing like his character in the telenovela. In the end, Melita learns that Janko likes her and ends up with him.
