Sean Brian Gilder (born 1 March 1964) is an English stage, film and screen actor, he is also a playwright.
Gilder was born in Brampton, Cumbria, England. He is best known for his portrayal of Paddy Maguire on Shameless from 2005 to 2010, and as Styles on Hornblower. He has appeared in Doctor Who (as the Sycorax Leader) as well as New Tricks, Gangs of New York, and the 2004 film, King Arthur. In Mike Bassett: England Manager he was one of the journalists. According to The Sun newspaper Gilder left Shameless after series 7 with the reason rumoured to be his bad relationship with actress Tina Malone, who plays his character's on screen wife Mimi.

Biography
Gilder attended Queen Mary, University of London where he earned a BA (Hons) in Modern History and Third World Studies. He then trained at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art and entered the profession in 1987. The film follows the lives of Arbor and Swifty, teenage boys growing up in a poor and run down area of Bradford, northern England. Arbor suffers from hyperactivity disorder, which often gets him into trouble even when it is not his intention. When the boys are suspended from school after a fight, they decide to earn money collecting and selling scrap metal. They quickly realize that stealing copper from telecom, railway, and power utilities proves quite lucrative. They sell their scrap to a local scrap dealer, Kitten.

On February 6, 1846, at Paradise Square in Lower Manhattan's Five Points, a territorial battle of hand-to-hand combat between Bill "the Butcher" Cutting's U.S.-born nativist gang, the Natives, and "Priest" Vallon's Irish Catholic immigrant gang, the Dead Rabbits, concludes when Cutting kills Vallon, witnessed by Vallon's young son, Amsterdam. Cutting declares the Dead Rabbits outlawed but orders that Vallon's body be buried with honor. England manager Phil Cope suffers a heart attack during qualification for the World Cup, which started out well but has gone badly wrong of late. The FA heads meet to decide who should be the new England manager, but soon run into trouble. The most successful Premier League manager is Scottish (based on Sir Alex Ferguson), the second most successful is a former England captain who is interested in the job, but the FA decide that he is too much of a "loudmouth" and refuse to consider him (a reference to the numerous times Brian Clough was passed over for the England job), while none of the other English managers in the Premiership are interested. They are forced to look to Division One, and Bassett, who has just won the Mr Clutch Cup with Norwich City.
