Biography

Cowell est né à Brighton d'un père promoteur immobilier et d'une mère ex-danseuse de ballet. Après avoir quitté l'école à seize ans, il exerça plusieurs jobs "alimentaires" avant d'être embauché chez EMI Music Publishing comme simple commis puis comme assistant d'un découvreur de talents. Une fois promu, au début des années 1980, il quitta EMI pour fonder son propre label, Fanfare Records. Après plusieurs hits retentissants dans les années 1980 (parmi lesquels Rondò Veneziano ou Sinitta), Fanfare fut racheté par BMG en 1989, à la suite de quoi Cowell devint découvreur de talents et enregistra notamment le groupe Westlife. Il innova en éditant pour BMG des disques enregistrés par des catcheurs, la musique des Télétubbies ou encore des Power Rangers. En 2002, il recréa son propre label, Syco qui fut acquis successivement par Columbia Records et Sony BMG. Des artistes tels que Leona Lewis et les vainqueurs successifs de l'émission The X Factor mais aussi Il Divo et Susan Boyle et One Direction ou encore Cher Lloyd enregistrent sous le label Syco.

En 2006, Simon Cowell accepta de continuer au sein du jury de l'émission American Idol durant cinq ans, pour $33 millions de dollars annuels. Il produit également pour NBC l'émission America's Got Talent mais n'apparaît pas à l'écran. Enfin, il a cédé une partie des droits de l'émission The X Factor à la chaîne britannique ITV.

Après la saison de 2010, Simon fait ses adieux à American idol, et American Idol fait ses adieux à Simon en lui concoctant un show spécial.

Le 23 août 2010, il est au centre d'une polémique concernant l'utilisation d'un logiciel musical : Auto-Tune utilisé dans toutes ses émissions pour améliorer en temps réel la justesse des candidats qui chantent en live.

Pour la première fois, il ne sera pas un des juges de l'émission Britain's Got Talent pour l’édition 2011. Mais Simon a décidé de revenir pour la Demi Finale 2011.

Le mercredi 21 septembre 2011, il lance The X Factor en Amérique sur la chaine FOX où il officie comme juge avec, à ses côtés, L.A. Reid, Paula Abdul, Nicole Scherzinger et Cheryl Cole. L'émission est attendue comme étant le nouveau programme numéro 1 aux USA. Mais les deux premiers épisodes ne rassemblent que 10 millions de téléspectateurs contre les 20 millions qui étaient attendus.

Le jeudi 8 novembre 2012, il présente les Gay Pink Awards en direct du Staples Center de Los Angeles.

The film is about 2012 Britain's Got Talent winner Pudsey the dog on an adventure. Pudsey uses his ability to walk on his hind legs and knock people over to save the day. Pudsey starts as a dog in a movie set, but he ends up fired after causing havoc. Pudsey runs away in disgrace and catches a bus, and there are several school kids on there. When the bus stops, Pudsey runs down the street. Some bullies from the bus bully some other kids. Pudsey runs back and knocks the bullies over. The bullied kids take Pudsey home with them. They are siblings and their names are Molly, Tommy and George. Tommy does not speak much. The kids' mum gets rid of Pudsey so the family can move house after the dad died. Molly, George and Tommy take Pudsey to a lady who looks after dogs. But the lady turns out to be evil after she says she is going to dye him pink and do horrible things to him like she has done to some poodles. Pudsey, because he is specially trained, opens the door and runs away, and jumps into a white van. The poodles escape too. The white van turns out to be the van that is moving the siblings' things, so Pudsey is moved to Chuffington with the family. Pudsey is able to speak.
