Tahar Cheriaa (January 5, 1927 – November 4, 2010) was a Tunisian film critic and the founder of the Carthage Film Festival in 1966.

Biography

Cheriaa was born in Sayada in Tunisia. He was the founder of the Carthage Film Festival in 1966 and he led the first four events which were held every other year.

Cheria was involved in the translation of Arabic poetry and he was a writer and spokesperson for Arab-African film culture. He was awarded the Grand Cordon of National Merit.

Cheriaa died in Ezzahra in 2010. He is buried in his hometown of Sayada.

Rachid, un ouvrier algérien, est venu chercher du travail en France, dans une usine. La vie n'est pas facile, mais il s'organise. Renvoyé sans préavis, il part à Roubaix où un ami peut l'aider. La vie continue, le travail est dur. Après avoir distribué des tracts syndicaux, Rachid est contraint de regagner Paris où il travaille désormais sur un chantier. Après un accident du travail, une grève est déclenchée. Son ami Mohamed est expulsé vers l'Algérie, alors que Rachid continue d'animer la grève.
