Thomas Hunter born on December 19, 1932 in Savannah, Georgia was an American actor known for work in Spaghetti Westerns and as a Hollywood screenwriter. He was also the founder of the New England Repertory Company.
He entered film in a small role in Blake Edwards' What Did You Do in the War, Daddy? (1966). After completing the film, a chance meeting with Dino De Laurentiis led him be invited to star as the lead in The Hills Run Red leading him to a career in European cinema with guest appearances in American television series. His disassatifaction with European cinema led him to found the New England Repertory Company.

Biography
Hunter served in the United States Marine Corps and graduated from the University of Virginia. He studied acting with Sanford Meisner and Uta Hagen.He entered film in a small role in Blake Edwards' What Did You Do in the War, Daddy? (1966). After completing the film, a chance meeting with Dino De Laurentiis led him be invited to star as the lead in The Hills Run Red leading him to a career in European cinema with guest appearances in American television series. His disassatifaction with European cinema led him to found the New England Repertory Company.

When the existence of a strain of plague (vaguely identified as pneumonic) is revealed at the U.S. mission at the International Health Organization, three terrorists seek to blow up the U.S. mission. Two of them are shot, one mortally, by security personnel but one escapes. The surviving terrorist is hospitalized and quarantined and identified as Swedish. Dr. Elena Stradner (Ingrid Thulin) and U.S. Colonel Stephen Mackenzie (Burt Lancaster) (Military Intelligence assigned to the IHO) argue over the nature of the strain, which Stradner suspects is a biological weapon but which Colonel Mackenzie claims was in the process of being destroyed.

After meeting a general, war correspondent Dick Ennis (Robert Mitchum) is assigned to accompany US Army Rangers for the upcoming attempt to outflank the tough enemy defenses. The amphibious landing is unopposed, but the bumbling American general, Jack Lesley (Arthur Kennedy) is too cautious, preferring to fortify his beachhead before advancing inland. Ennis and a Ranger drive in a jeep through the countryside, discovering there are few Germans between the beachhead and Rome, but his information is ignored. Three men are each provided with a part of a map and a photograph from the time when they were children: the US-American Whitey, the Frenchman Étienne and the Japanese Lester. Their maps lead all of them to the same gold mine. When they meet they figure out they are all sons of the late mine owner Langdon. The land around the mine has been bequeathed to them and the saloon girl Mady who they recognise as their sister. Nonetheless their heritage is under the sway of megalomaniac gangster boss Fuller, who dresses in toga and lives in a Roman-style palace with local women performing erotic dances. In 1980, the USS Nimitz takes on a civilian observer, systems analyst Warren Lasky (Martin Sheen), on the orders of his reclusive and mysterious employer, Mr. Tideman (who helped design much of the ship), just before it departs Pearl Harbor for a training mission in the Pacific Ocean. Out in the Pacific, the ship encounters a strange storm-like vortex which disappears after the ship passes through it. Initially unsure of what has happened, and having lost radio contact with Pacific Fleet Command, Captain Matthew Yelland (Kirk Douglas) launches reconnaissance aircraft which discover the intact U.S. Pacific battleship fleet at Pearl Harbor.
