Traugott Buhre (21 June 1929 – 26 July 2009) was a German actor.

Buhre was born at Insterburg, East Prussia, Germany (today Chernyakhovsk, Russia) the son of a Lutheran Pastor. His parents divorced in his childhood and after World War II he started his actor's education at the stage school of Hanover.

Buhre appeared at the Frankonian Theater of Wetzhausen. He was a member of the ensembles of the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, the Staatstheater Stuttgart, the Schauspielhaus Bochum, Thalia-Theater Hamburg, Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, the Schaubühne in Berlin, Burgtheater in Vienna and the Berliner Ensemble.

His last stage appearance was in Thomas Bernhard's Immanuel Kant at the Schauspielhaus Zürich in 2009.

Buhre was popular among a wider audience for his TV roles in Derrick and Tatort and in the German movie production Anatomy.

Buhre was married twice and had seven children.

The story follows the journey of three monks of the (fictional) Cantorianer Order of monks, who have until recently lived in an ancient Abbey in Brandenburg. The Cantorianer speak Latin, and maintain a religious life, in which hierarchy plays a minor role, and believe that the Holy Spirit is revealed in music, particularly in the vocals. Because of this heretical doctrine, the Cantorianer have been persecuted by the Roman Catholic Church since 1693. Today only two monasteries survive Brandenburg and the mother monastery Montecerboli in Italy.

Medical student Paula Henning (Franka Potente) wins a place in a summer course at the prestigious University of Heidelberg Medical School. Her grandfather had a great name there before retiring, including being the discoverer of a useful drug, Promidal. They are tutored by Professor Grombek, who announces the hard work ahead. He also tells them that he will be using the elimination system, where the six lower grades will be periodically discarded. During one of their courses on anatomy, the body of David, a young man that Paula met and helped on the train trip, turns up on her dissection table. She is then humiliated by Professor Grombek, who dares her to cut and dissect the heart. She remarks that the body presents strange cuts, but this is dismissed as bad handling by the morgue caretaker. She decides to investigate the mysterious circumstances surrounding his death. When she goes to cut a sample for an independent test she is amazed to find a triple "A" mark near David's ankle. She is then startled by the medical school's mortuary preparetor, who wants to know if Professor Grombek is aware of her acts.

The infamous Nazi doctor Josef Mengele, who performed unethical medical experiments and is considered to be personally responsible for the selection of mass groups of detainees to be murdered in the gas chambers at the Auschwitz concentration camp, comes back from his hideout in Argentina as an 87-year-old man who is in his last days. Back in Germany, he must face trial for his crimes. Peter Rohm, a young solicitor and expert on Mengele, has to defend him. But Rohm feels unable to do so; when he decides to take on the case he endangers not only the relationship to his wife but also their very lives.

Roswitha Bronski (Alexandra Kluge) is a nurse married to the chemical engineer Franz Bronski (Bion Steinborn), with whom she had three children.
