She is born in a royal family as K. C. Anujanraja Kottakal Kovilakam and Nedupuram Kottarathil Manorama's daughter at Nedumpuram Palace, Tiruvalla. She had her primary education from Infant Jesus Convent Thrissur and Sree Keralavarama College. She learned Mohiniyattam, Bharathanatyam, Kathakali and Veena. She is also a painting artist.She is married to Palakad Ankarath Ramanunni. The couple have a daughter Utthara Unni who is an upcoming actress Currently they are residing at Kadavanthra, Ernakulam. They have started a dance school Angopanga at Bahrain. Actress Samyuktha Varma is her niece.

The film begins in Mumbai, where the cops plan the encounter of a terrorist 'Malik' (Nawab Shah), who is a notorious criminal.The cops succeed in trapping him and the Commissioner of police, Anwer kills Malik. Then comes Chandru (Jiiva), a happy go lucky jobless youth who lives in his Grandmother's expense. Chandru meets Sreela (Thulasi Nair) on the day of encounter and helps her elope the spot, saving her life. Chandru falls for Sreela at first sight and starts to follow her. Though initially she refuses him, they both fall in love soon. As usual, Sreela's father (Nasser) Opposes their marriage, as Chandru is jobless and doesn't have an income.Hence Chandru decides to find a job with full fledge. He finally gets a job offer in 'Basilistan', a strict Islamic nation. Chandru travels to Basilistan with the help of a travel agent 'Haridas'. He also introduces Iqbal, an autistic teen boy to Chandru, who is also travelling to Basilistan for a work and asks Chandru to take care of him till they reach Basilistan, Morocco.

The story revolves around Ajayan (Mohanlal), who, after having tried his luck in different cities around the world, comes back to his village to look after his ageing mother Ammukutty Amma (Sheela) and to get her love and the nostalgia of his growing up years. There, he starts a company for producing agricultural equipment and earns his living as a farmer. One day a boy comes and meets Ajayan claiming to be his son. Ajayan used to boast himself as a womanizer in his youth is believed to be the boy's father by all villagers. Ammukutty Amma starts getting to like the boy and they form a very friendly relation and eventually she starts accepting the boy as Ajayan's real son, though Ajayan ferociously reject the boy's claim and dislikes him. The boy is persuaded by Ammukkty Amma to get close with Ajayan and subsequent events softens Ajayans attitude towards the boy. Ajayan then set forth to enquire about the real identity of the boy and travels to Chennai. He is absolutely sure that he is not his father as the real truth is his stories about adventures with woman were actually lies to get admiration of his friends. The climax show us that Ajayan accepts the boy as his own son.
