Peter, a woodsman and his mother live in the Black Forest where he exists by selling charcoal. Stung by the ridicule of the wealthier inhabitants of the village and desiring to marry the beautiful Lisbeth, he sees his only chance for prosperity by locating a good forest spirit, the small Glasmännlein who grants him two wishes at first, then a third wish later. Peter wishes for wealth that he purchases a glassworks but due to his inexperience the glassworks fails and he gambles his money away.

La vedette d'un music-hall, Julia Koester (Marika Rökk), se querelle avec son imprésario. Elle quitte le théâtre et monte dans un train. Sans affaires, la jeune femme se retrouve dans la petite gare de montagne d'un village enneigé. Erwin Forster (Walter Müller), un ingénieur, tombe fou amoureux d'elle, tandis que son collègue Peter Groll (Wolfgang Lukschy) critique les mauvaises manières de la chanteuse. The film opens at an 18th-century ball, where Baron Hieronymus von Münchhausen is propositioned by a young woman who is engaged to another man. He graciously rejects her advance, and as she leaves, she asks him to turn on the light. The camera follows his hand to a modern light switch, and the young woman drives off in an automobile. The next day, the Baron, out of his costume and in modern dress, regales two of his guests with stories of the famous Baron Münchhausen, to whom his guests think he is distantly related.

Le séduisant Oberlieutenant Paul Wendlandt est stationné comme pilote de chasse en Afrique du Nord. Il est rappelé à Berlin pour une journée en tant que rapporteur. Il y rencontre, sur la scène du théâtre de variété la „Scala“ la chanteuse populaire danoise Hanna Holberg. Il s'agit pour Paul d'un coup de foudre. Lorsqu'Hanna part avec des amis, à la fin du spectacle, Paul la suit et lui parle dans le métro berlinois. Après une soirée à l'appartement des amies d'Hanna, Paul la raccompagne jusque chez elle. C'est sur ce chemin que la chance a décidé de frapper : une alerte aérienne force Hannah à emmener Paul à se réfugier avec elle dans l'abri anti-aérien de son immeuble. It is a revue film, loosely based on the stage work Karl III. und Anna von Österreich by Manfried Rössner. Karl Zimmermann, a composer whose idols are Johann Sebastian Bach and classical composers, dreams of being successful with his own opera and composes popular music for fun, but does not try to distribute it for reasons of honor. His wife, Anni Pichler is a popular singer and secretly sells his popular songs so that they can make a living. When he finally completes his opera and it is rejected by the public, he realizes that his true talent is composing popular music and not dishonorable.
