Walter Sedlmayr (6 January 1926 – 14 July 1990) was a German stage, television, and film actor from Bavaria.

Sa carrière a commencé par des rôles mineurs, que ce soit avec la Münchner Kammerspiele pour laquelle il a joué pendant plus de 25 ans, ou dans de nombreux Heimatfilme pendant les années 1940 et 50.
En 1971, alors associé à Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Walter Sedlmayr a été brièvement arrêté à cause d’une œuvre d’art, la Blutenburger Madonna qui a été retrouvée dans sa maison. Il a été disculpé de toutes les charges, et l’attention des médias qui a été attirée sur lui à cause de cette affaire l’a aidé à gagner des rôles majeurs. Sa révélation majeure est venue en 1973 par son rôle principal dans le film Theodor Hirneis oder Wie man ehem. Hofkoch wird de Hans-Jürgen Syberberg.

En 1993, les demi-frères Manfred Lauber et Wolfgang Werlé, anciens associés de Walter Sedlmayr, sont condamnés à la prison à vie pour son assassinat.
La vie et la mort de Walter Sedlmayr ont fait l’objet en 2001 de la biographie Wambo par Jo Baier, où son rôle est joué par Jürgen Tarrach, ainsi que d’un épisode de la série télévisée Die großen Kriminalfälle de l’ARD.

Ali (Salem), is a Moroccan Gastarbeiter (guest worker) in his late thirties, and Emmi (Mira), is a 60-year-old widowed cleaning woman. They meet when Emmi ducks inside a bar, driven by the rain and drawn by the exotic Arabic music (Al Asfouryeh by Sabah) she says she has heard so often on her walk home from work. A woman in the bar (Katharina Herberg) who is part of Ali's Arabic-speaking cohort tauntingly suggests Ali ask Emmi ("the old woman") to dance, and Emmi accepts. A strange and unlikely friendship develops, then a romance and soon they are living together in Emmi's flat. Out of a professed sense of responsibility but also hopefulness, Emmi first confides in her newfound love when she goes to visit her daughter Krista (Irm Hermann) and her tyrannical son-in-law Eugen (Fassbinder himself) and announces that she is in love with Ali; Eugen thinks she is screwy and Krista as well can only think that her mother - who has been a widow for years - is fantasizing.

At the Institute for Cybernetics and Future Science ("Institut für Kybernetik und Zukunftsforschung, IKZ"), a new supercomputer hosts a simulation program that includes an artificial world with over 9,000 "identity units" who live as human beings, unaware that their world is just a simulacron. Professor Vollmer (Adrian Hoven), who is technical director of the program, is apparently on the verge of an incredible secret discovery. He becomes increasingly agitated and anti-social before dying in a mysterious accident. His successor, Dr. Fred Stiller, has a discussion with Günther Lause, the security adviser of the institute, when the latter suddenly disappears without trace, before passing on Vollmer's secret to Stiller. More mysterious still is the fact that none of the other IKZ employees seem to have any memory of Lause.

Mike and Gunther lead a boring life in Munich. Hanna, Mike’s girl friend, wants to get married but he is not interested. The two friends get hold of a treasure map of the Rio das Mortes area and decide to set out to find it in Peru. They are looking for freedom and adventure. Against Hanna’s opposition, the car is sold, and the two men try to raise money. Their ignorance and clumsiness seems to lead to failure, but eventually, by luck, they find a sponsor. In the final scene, at the Munich airport, a rejected Hanna is about to shoot them as they walk to the airplane.
