Walter Walker was an American actor of the stage and screen during the first half of the twentieth century. Born in New York City on March 13, 1864, Walker would have a career in theater prior to entering the film industry. By 1915 he was appearing in Broadway productions, his first being Sinners, written by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, Owen Davis. His film debut was in a leading role in 1917's American - That's All. He had a lengthy career, in both film and on stage, appearing in numerous plays and over 80 films. Walker died on December 4, 1947 in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Biography

Walter Walker entame sa carrière d'acteur au théâtre et joue notamment à Broadway (New York) dans treize pièces, depuis Sinners d'Owen Davis (1915, avec Alice Brady et John Cromwell) jusqu'à Rebound de Donald Ogden Stewart (1930, avec l'auteur). Toujours à Broadway, s'ajoutent les deux comédies musicales Up in the Clouds (1922, avec Grace Moore) et Top-Hole (1924-1925).

Au cinéma, durant la période du muet, il contribue à six films sortis entre 1917 et 1926, dont Her Excellency, the Governor d'Albert Parker (1917, avec Wilfred Lucas et Elda Millar).

Puis, pendant la période du parlant, il apparaît dans quatre-vingt-neuf autres films américains de 1929 à 1939, dont Pour décrocher la lune d'Edmund Goulding (1930, avec Douglas Fairbanks et Bebe Daniels), Carioca de Thornton Freeland (1933, avec Dolores del Río et Gene Raymond), L'Intruse d'Alfred E. In Vienna, 15-year-old Marie Antoinette (Norma Shearer) is informed by her mother, Empress Marie Therese of Austria (Alma Kruger), that Marie is to marry the future King of France, the Dauphin Louis XVI (Robert Morley). The young princess is excited to meet her future husband and live as a queen, but the Dauphin she married is actually a shy man, more at home with locksmithing than attending parties at the court at Versailles. After they are married, Marie tries desperately to please her husband, and after some trepidation, the Dauphin realizes he can trust Marie and tells her he cannot produce heirs. Without children to occupy her time and attention, Marie is bored and associates with the power-hungry Duc d'Orleans (Joseph Schildkraut), even though the Dauphin does not like him.
