The film opens at an 18th-century ball, where Baron Hieronymus von Münchhausen is propositioned by a young woman who is engaged to another man. He graciously rejects her advance, and as she leaves, she asks him to turn on the light. The camera follows his hand to a modern light switch, and the young woman drives off in an automobile. The next day, the Baron, out of his costume and in modern dress, regales two of his guests with stories of the famous Baron Münchhausen, to whom his guests think he is distantly related.

Peter Trost est un célibataire endurci et propriétaire d'une entreprise couronnée de succès ayant pour clientèle les célibataires. Elle a inventé ainsi une machine pour tartiner les petits pains. Pour échapper à sa secrétaire Lil qui a le béguin pour lui, il va prendre des vacances. À la gare, il rencontre Robert Deinhardt, un ancien camarade d'école. Sa femme Ellinor est furieuse, parce que Robert veut se rendre à un congrès d'architecte sans elle. Elle croit que Robert va la tromper avec Mary, sa jolie secrétaire. Aussi le menace-t-elle de faire de même avec Fred Hansen, un chef d'orchestre. Robert demande à Peter de prendre deux jours sur ses vacances pour surveiller son épouse.

It is a revue film, loosely based on the stage work Karl III. und Anna von Österreich by Manfried Rössner. Karl Zimmermann, a composer whose idols are Johann Sebastian Bach and classical composers, dreams of being successful with his own opera and composes popular music for fun, but does not try to distribute it for reasons of honor. His wife, Anni Pichler is a popular singer and secretly sells his popular songs so that they can make a living. When he finally completes his opera and it is rejected by the public, he realizes that his true talent is composing popular music and not dishonorable.

Pologne, 1704. Le pays est dirigé par Frédéric-Auguste de Saxe qui a nommé le colonel Ollendorf Statthalter de Cracovie. Les rassemblements nocturnes sont interdits. Ollendorf donne un bal qui aura comme invités la comtesse désargentée Nowalska et ses deux filles Bronislava et Laura. Bronislava s'intéresse seulement à la nourriture et à la danse, ce qui embarrasse sa mère. Laura, cependant, est assaillie par les hommes. Ollendorf veut une danse avec Laura qui esquive. Mais alors qu'il la serre et lui embrasse l'épaule, elle lui donne un gifle, ce qui est un déshonneur, surtout venant d'une Polonaise. Il rit jaune en pensant à sa vengeance.
