In the 1997 general election, Tony Blair (Michael Sheen) becomes Britain's Labour prime minister. However, the Queen (Helen Mirren) is wary of Blair and his pledge to modernise Britain, despite his promises to respect the Royal Family. Three months later, Diana, Princess of Wales dies in a car crash at the Alma Bridge tunnel in Paris. Blair's director of communications, Alastair Campbell (Mark Bazeley), prepares a speech in which Diana is described as the people's princess. The phrase catches on and millions of people across London display an outpouring of grief at Buckingham and Kensington Palaces. Meanwhile, the Royal Family is still at their summer estate in Balmoral Castle. Diana's death sparks division amongst members of the family, with some of the view that since Diana was divorced from Prince Charles (Alex Jennings) a year prior to her death, she was no longer a part of the royal family. They argue that Diana's funeral arrangements are thus best left as a private affair of her noble family, the Spencers. Charles, however, argues that the mother of a future king cannot be dismissed so lightly, and persuades the Queen to authorise the use of an aircraft of the Royal Air Force to bring Diana's body back to Britain.

Le film est un hymne à la nature. Théo est un adolescent, son père le conduit dans une école privée catholique dans le Sud-Ouest dans laquelle il sera contraint de terminer ses études. Lors d'un arrêt dans une station essence, le jeune Théo en profite pour s'enfuir et se réfugier dans la montagne. Un milieu hostile pour ce jeune fugueur qui ne connaît rien de la nature. Il fait la connaissance de Quentin, un vieil homme solitaire qui vit dans la montagne loin des hommes et se bat pour sauvegarder les derniers ours dans les Pyrénées. C'est un voyage initiatique dans lequel le vieil homme va lui apprendre à vivre dans la forêt et à comprendre le monde sauvage. Théo ressortira grandi de cette expérience.

Son oncle, César Soubeyran, dit « le Papet », est un vieux célibataire prêt à tout pour que son neveu réussisse et se marie, afin que se transmette son nom, dont Ugolin est l'unique héritier. L'aboutissement de ces projets nécessite une source sur ses terres, un bien extrêmement précieux. La « ferme des Romarins » conviendrait parfaitement.

While four actresses from Molière's itinerant theatrical troupe set off looking for a latrine, Molière (Bernard Giraudeau) and his best friend Gros-Rene (Patrick Timsit) discover Marquise (Sophie Marceau) dancing before an eager crowd of men. Her movements are provocative and are heightened by a heavy rain that drenches her hair and clothes. The men offer her coins for her performance, which are pocketed by Marquise's father. Gros-Rene immediately falls in love with Marquise. Lambert, a withdrawn middle-aged man, works the night shift at a Parisian petrol station. He has no friends, no family; his only companion is his bottle of rum. One night, a young Arab man, Bensoussan, enters his shop — and his life. This stranger has also no family, lives alone in a dingy room, and scrapes together a living as a drug dealer. The two solitary men develop a friendship — but this is brutally brought to an end when Bensoussan is killed in front of Lambert. Lambert soon realises that his new friend was murdered by his drug dealing associates and sets out to avenge his death — assisted by Lola, a punk girl who knew Bensoussan briefly. By doing this, Lambert manages to come to terms with his own tragic past.
