Youki Kudoh (工藤 夕貴, Kudō Yūki, born January 17, 1971) is a Japanese actress and singer. She won the award for best newcomer at the 6th Yokohama Film Festival for The Crazy Family. She also won the award for best actress at the 16th Hochi Film Award for War and Youth.


Youki Kudoh débute en 1983 à 12 ans en tant qu'idol, en tournant des publicités (notamment sa première, une parodie du film adapté de la Traversée du temps pour une marque de ramen). Elle commence une carrière de chanteuse en 1984 et sort sept albums au Japon, jusqu'en 1995. Elle interprète de nombreux titres de son premier film, Gyakufunsha kazoku (The Crazy Family). Outre le cinéma, elle figure dans divers téléfilms et de nombreuses publicités. Parlant couramment anglais et français, elle commence sa carrière internationale avec Mystery Train de Jim Jarmush. Après d'autres films indépendants comme Picture Bride et le thriller australien Heaven's Burning, elle décroche le rôle féminin principal de La neige tombait sur les cèdres l'adaptation par Scott Hicks en 1999 du best-seller de David Guterson. L'année 2000 elle prête aussi sa voix à l'anime Blood: The Last Vampire. Dans cette même période elle pose pour la photographe Doane Gregory qui lui consacrera un album entièrement dédié qui fait sensation au Japon par ses nombreux nus.

N'ayant pu décrocher le premier rôle dans la distribution de Mémoires d'une Geisha, elle y interprète néanmoins un personnage de second plan, Pumpkin. Continuant les seconds rôles pour les grosses productions américaines, elle accepte Rush Hour 3. Elle interprète le Dr Kujo dans L : Change the WorLd, spin-off cinématographique du manga Death Note. Avec The Limits of Control, elle retrouve Jim Jarmush.

Youki Kudoh est la fille de Hachirou Isawa, un célèbre chanteur d'enka, un style de chant traditionnel au Japon.
En 2005, Youki Kudoh s'éloignera quelque peu des plateaux et rentrera au Japon pour se consacrer à des travaux agricoles.

The films starts with young Ichi's wife (Satomi Ishihara) being murdered by Toraji (Sosuke Takaoka), the cowardly art loving son of a yakuza boss. Following her death, Ichi (Shingo Katori) returns to his hometown, where he hopes to resume a normal life under the guise of farmer with his friend Ryuji (Takashi Sorimachi). However, the same group of yakuza plan to change Ichi's hometown into a harbor, and start exploiting local peasants for money. Ryuji's land deeds are taken and ransomed at a high price, so Ichi uses his gambling skills to win the money for the deeds. This unveils his identity as the infamous Zato Ichi which the Yakuza don't like and burn down the house. The villagers draft a Tanran scroll to present to a passing official asking for assistance. However having Zato Ichi, a wanted criminal, in the village would not work in their favor so they devise a plan to dispose of him. They give him a blank scroll to "deliver" to the officials and lead him on a dangerous path sending the yakuza after him. However, he realizes it is the wrong path and makes it to the officials. His betrayal is revealed when he shows the blank scroll to the officials and they are insulted and leave. Ichi takes the responsibility of getting rid of the yakuza on himself, going to the yakuza headquarters and killing the boss. However he is shot by Toraji and stabbed by one of the Yakuza minions. Crawling on hands and feet he goes to the beach where he presumably dies reuniting with his wife in the next life.

La famille Kobayashi décide de réaliser leur rêve et d'emménager dans une maison moderne en banlieue. Chacun à sa propre occupation.
