Biography
Né le 13 mai 1972 en Corée du Sud, Yim Pil-sung commence sa carrière en tant que scénariste, producteur et réalisateur en commençant plusieurs courts-métrages dont Brushing (소년기, So-Nyun-Ghi) en 1997 et Baby (Beibi) en 1998. Ce dernier court-métrage est sélectionné à la Mostra de Venise et au Festival international du film de Karlovy Vary en 1999.En juillet 2004, il tourne Antarctic Journal (남극일기, Namgeuk-ilgi) à l'est de Snow Farm à Queenstown en Nouvelle-Zélande. Ce film recevra un prix d'Orient Express au Festival international du film de Catalogne en octobre 2005.

In late 2000, an American military pathologist commands a reluctant Korean assistant to violate protocol by dumping over 200 bottles of formaldehyde down a drain leading into the Han River. Over the next few years, there are sightings of a strange amphibious creature in the waterway, and the fish in the Han River are dying off because of water pollution. Shim Hak-kyu is a 37-year-old professor who becomes embroiled in a sex scandal at his university. He is forced to leave the urban bustle of Seoul to teach literature in a small, rural town until the matter is settled. There he meets Deok-ee, a 20-year-old woman working at an amusement park, and drawn to her naivete and innocence, the two begin a torrid, obsessive affair. Eun-soo, a salesman, is driving his car along Highway 69 while talking on the phone with his four-weeks pregnant girlfriend, Hae-young. She tells him to stay by her side for the remainder of her pregnancy, but he replies that his mother is ill and he has to visit her, leading to a quarrel as Eun-soo is driving and causing him to hit a rock and pass out. During their journey to the Pole of Inaccessibility (POI), the remotest point of the Antarctic, the expedition of six men, led by Captain Choi Do-hyung, discovers a journal that was left behind by a British expedition 80 years earlier. The journal was remarkably preserved in a box in the snow and Kim Min-jae, another member of the expedition, gets the job of examining it. It turns out that the two expeditions shared the same goal and soon other strange similarities between them start to show up. Will they make it to their destination before the sun goes down for the Antarctic winter?
