Superimposed in the haze are dissolving scenes of American conflicts from the American Revolutionary War through Desert Storm.

The show opens with Larry the Cucumber driving onto the countertop in a brand-new "Soo-Vee Action Jeep", which causes Bob the Tomato to feel upset. Larry has been waiting for the Action Jeep for a really long time.. Larry goes on to admit that he will not be really happy until he has all the additional vehicles in the Soo-Vee line, and Bob the Tomato decides that this would be a good theme for an episode. The French Peas, Jean-Claude and Philippe, they appear and begin narrating the story.

This film depicts the disputes between two forms of the dance styles and music, Classical Indian (in particular Carnatic music and Bharathanatyam danceform) against rural Tamil folk music and dance. The film depicts the misunderstanding and mutual ignorance of the two factions. The parallel plot in the movie is of the children and intended successors of the respective dance doyens falling in love with each other. The climax ends with a consensus of both the music genres as well as the young couple, hence the name Sangamam.

Geetanjali a.k.a. Geeta (Anuradha Mehta) goes to Kanyakumari on a trip. She finds a poem in a diary left on a beach and signs in it. Her anklet falls into the ocean and a guy jumps into the water in front of her eyes but no one sees him resurfacing. However, Geeta did not see who jumped in the ocean. She dreams about the incident frequently with the idea that the guy who jumped has died but her friends ask her to forget it.

On their wedding day, Marcus (Marcus Patrick) and Vivian (Cherie Johnson) are in a car crash, and Vivian is hospitalized in an apparently irreversible coma. Eventually Marcus gives her up for dead, and assuming the hospital had terminated life support, marries a second wife, Jenny (April Scott), who unlike Vivian and Marcus is white. Two years after the accident, when Jenny is in a late stage of pregnancy, the hospital informs him that Vivian has awoken from the coma. Jenny suggests she stay with the couple; Marcus, in love with both women, finds he must choose since they are fighting over him. However, Vivian causes Jenny to eat and drink so much sodium that after giving birth, she is in turn comatose in the hospital. Marcus and Vivian pledge their love to each other over her hospital bed.

Rishi (Rajat Kapoor) is coming to terms with the loss of his wife and son while being posted in a foreign country. Kalabha Mazha tells the friendly relationship between a Hindu and a Muslim family. Madhava Menon (Thilakan) who worked in the All India Radio always respects other religions and works for the upliftment of the society. Malavika (Devika) is the eldest daughter of Madhava Menon. She is betrothed to Unnikrishnan (Krishna). She is more than a sister to her two younger siblings, since their mother had died when they were quite young. Menon, is regretful that he hasn't been able to save much money for his children, and the family finds it hard, to make both ends meet, as days pass by. There is a Muslim family staying nearby, headed by Kunjali (Mamukkoya). His son-in-law, on a job in the Middle East, had been missing for about six long years. Malavika's sister, falls for a film director, and soon realizes that her decision was wrong. Her brother on the other hand, takes up a job at a local bank, and finds himself having transformed into a goon. Later, Malavika bumps into her sister's absconding lover, and almost meets with the same fate in his hands.
