In October 1956, Ronnie, a Dutch woman married to a Canadian clergyman, is on a package tour of Israel. While visiting a kibbutz, she sees the local schoolteacher, Rachel Rosenthal, and they realise they knew each other during World War II. As Rachel recalls the past near a riverbank, the film then flashes back to 1944, and begins the story of Rachel Stein, a Dutch-Jewish singer who had lived in Berlin before the war and is now hiding from the Nazi regime in the occupied Netherlands.
Ruben (Joren Seldeslachts) is a lone and unbalanced young man who lost his sight in childhood. Marie (Halina Reijn) is an albino woman of temperate look and with a lot of insecurities. She has a beautiful voice and along with Ruben shares a mutual love for books and tales. Ruben's mother hires her as a reader to read her son books orally. While they live in a mansion, between these two lonely souls sparks love, but will love still be blind if the man recovers from his blindness?

The film is about the customers and personal lives of Greet (Ronnie Bierman) and Nel (Sylvia de Leur), two female prostitutes in Amsterdam. Greet and Nel are friends and live on different floors of the same canal house at the Prinsengracht. In this house they also receive customers.

A bather (played by Willy Mullens) who is lounging in a beach chair is surprised by a sudden onset of water. He quickly pulls his pants off to keep them dry. A policeman is not appreciative and trouble grows, witnessed by a growing crowd. The bather tries to escape by disguising himself as a woman, and flees across the village but is eventually caught by the collar. A crowd of people and a musical band accompany his arrest.
The film tells the story of twin German sisters Lotte (Thekla Reuten) and Anna (Nadja Uhl) who are separated when they are six. After the death of their parents, they are "divided" between quarreling distant relatives, one being raised in the Netherlands and the other in Germany. Lotte grows up in a loving middle-class intellectual family in Amsterdam, and Anna is raised in virtual servitude by a poor Catholic peasant family in a backward area .
Tom (Matt Barber) and Alison (Megan Maczko) are a married couple having sex when Aaron (Edward Akrout) breaks into their house and assaults them. When they come to, Alison is tied up and hung by her arms from the ceiling in the kitchen and Tom is about to be bound by Aaron in the bathroom. As events progress, Aaron's actions grow increasingly more violent and dangerous and things come to the surface that shows that Tom and Alison are both hiding secrets.

Elephants Dream est une courte histoire mettant en scène deux personnages, Emo et Proog, dans un monde modelé par les pensées des deux personnages. Proog, l'aîné, est émerveillé par ce monde et ses mystères ; Emo, de son côté, est lassé de son environnement.
