1898, Province of Bulacan - President Emilio Aguinaldo (Mon Confiado) together with his Prime Minister Apolinario Mabini (Epi Quizon) and his cabinet are debating the issue of the American presence in the Philippines. Felipe Buencamino (Nonie Buencamino) and Pedro Paterno (Leo Martinez) support the American occupation, while General Antonio Luna (John Arcilla) and General José Alejandrino (Alvin Anson) wants independence for the Philippines. Luna asks the cabinet to authorize a pre-emptive strike while the Americans have yet to land their ground troops. Aguinaldo however assured his cabinet that the Americans had promised to help win freedom from their Spanish overlords. Unfortunately, the Americans have invaded key cities in Manila, indicating a possible war against the Filipinos.

Francine Natra (Regine Velasquez) is a popular singer enjoying the peak of her career. But due to stardom and her hectic schedules she suffers from a simple life on her own. Meanwhile, Guillermo "Gimo" Talumpati (Robin Padilla) lives his ordinary life as an auto mechanic taking care of his family and especially Ging-Ging, his sister with down syndrome. Their fates cross when a promo contest called "Date With A Star" makes Gimo the winner to take the popular Francine on a special date. But the prize date gets cut short when Francine's suitor Alex appears while Gimo was star struck to her. Feeling cheated, Gimo schemes his way to abduct the singer to be able to get to know her and carry out the prize date. Realizing what Francine was missing, living life's simple pleasures, she becomes closer to him. Being the honest person that he is, Gimo also falls in love with her. Until his sister had to go for a medical operation that needed an amount of money that their relationship went public. As a consequence Gimo can’t handle Francine's showbiz world. With her popularity and his pride, their relationship breaks off after an argument. Disappointed Francine leaves and clarifies the issue about Gimo. Days later, Francine kidnaps Gimo and asked him to marry her. He quickly realizes he has made the biggest mistake of his life by letting her go. They marry, the film concluding with a shot of Francine giving birth to their first child.

No one wants to bee "chosen" anymore, least of all Duwokan (Barbie Forteza), Pinailog'g 15 year old grand daughter. Duwokan wants to live her life, go out, learn new things and fall in love—all of which Pinailog disapproves owing her beliefs that Duwokan does not have the choice in the matter, just as she never had a choice when she was chosen. However, as Duwokan falls in love with a young man, the sanctity of the "tuos" ( the pact between the supernatural deities and their village0 is threatened, putting Duwokan's life in danger. Realizing that she cannot just let things be, Pinailog fights for Duwokan's right to live her own life and finds herself coming face to face, literally, with the ghosts of a tradition which shackled her into a life of solitary confinement.

As Rene waits for the day of his death, he gets the surprise of his life when it is Bwakaw who suddenly falls ill and is diagnosed with cancer. Rene is surprisingly affected, and he realizes that he values Bwakaw more than he thinks. In his struggle to get Bwakaw cured, Rene finds comfort in the most unlikely person: Sol, a tricycle driver who helps him bring Bwakaw to the vet and befriends him. Buoyed by Sol's friendship, Rene starts living. Little by little he discovers simple joys. To the surprise of his friends, he even has his hair dyed to look younger. One day, he finally decides to make a move on Sol. The revelation that Rene is gay and has feelings for him surprises and disgusts Sol. He rejects Rene and leaves in anger. In the meantime, Bwakaw's condition gets worse. Not even Rene's ancient Santo Entierro (a supposedly miraculous statue of Jesus Christ) can save Bwakaw. Bwakaw dies, and Rene's neighbors help him bury the faithful dog. But Bwakaw's death, even while it was still only imminent, has made a difference. Rene has found a new appreciation for life and what is most important. He decides to unpack the things that he has already willed to other people and make his house more habitable. He is, after all, still alive.

Years after volcanic mud flow (lahar) covers a town in Pampanga, Pol and his co workers dig up the coffin of his daughter. The remains of two-year-old Marikit did not show any signs of decay. As people are getting healed purportedly by the dead child, Pol insists that his child is worthy of being called a saint. Thus begins his crusade to get his daughter beatified. Unearthing her body digs up unresolved issues in many persons' lives. In the end, an event will make us ask if there was healing, a cleansing of sins and a chance to move on.
