When the Fabre family move into their dream house with wonderful neighbors, everything seems perfect except for one thing - the youngest child Ludovic wishes to function as a girl; while she was assigned 'male' at birth, she feels that she is a girl and wants to live as a female. The rest of the family humor her as best they can, rationalizing that Ludovic is only trying to find "his" identity and will be over it soon.

It is spring. Randy Dean is a 17-year-old student in her final year with poor grades, only one friend - Frank, a gay Latino - secret cigarette and marijuana habits and a cashier’s job at a gas station with fellow worker Regina. Shunned by other students for her tomboyish personality and appearance, she spends most of her free time either by herself or in illicit meetings with her romantic partner Wendy, a married woman who drops by the gas station when it pleases her, even though Randy knows they are in a dead-end relationship. Randy lives with her lesbian aunt Rebecca and her girlfriend Vicky, as well as Rebecca's ex-girlfriend Lena, who has no place to stay and is living with them until she finds somewhere else she can go to.
Teenage lovers Jordan White and Amy Blue pick up a handsome drifter named Xavier Red while driving home from a club. Jordan gives Xavier the nickname "X". A late-night stop at a convenience store leaves the three on the run when X accidentally kills the store's owner, forcing the trio to hide in a motel to avoid arrest. While Jordan and Amy have sex in the bathtub, X learns from the local television news program that the store owner's wife disemboweled her children with a machete before committing suicide, thus, he concludes, removing any possibility of the trio being caught by the police.
The film is set in southwest France in 1962. François (Gaël Morel), a shy young man from the lower middle class, is working towards his high school diploma. He spends most of his time talking about movies and literature with his best friend, Maïté (Élodie Bouchez), whose mother Mme Alvarez (Michèle Moretti) is François's French teacher. Mme Alvarez and Maïté are communists. At the boarding school, François becomes acquainted with the sensual son of a farmer, Serge (Stéphane Rideau). At night, he joins François in the dormitory to chat. Finally, Serge draws François into an erotic relationship.
The plot is concerned with six teenagers, four of whom are gay men, the other two a "traditional" lesbian couple. The plot is spliced with segments of other material and occasional tangents not central to the plot, but it mainly follows a linear structure. Araki has constructed the film in 15 parts, which is described in the opening titles.

Jeroen and his friend Jan go to the ocean and see an American plane in the water; Jan tries to go under but claims there are too many eels and comes up with a big cut on his upper right thigh.

Now elderly, she runs the Gründerzeit Museum, fulfilling her dream of living as a woman from the turn of 20th century. Scenes of her life are dramatized. Two actors play the young and middle aged Charlotte and she plays herself in the later years.
Lorenzo is a young man, a newly qualified teacher on his first posting, who has been appointed to a small Italian village. One of his pupils, a cute and smart 12-year-old boy named Duilio, a farmer's son, gradually grows to love Lorenzo and they become good friends but the boy wishes Lorenzo was his older brother. Lorenzo often visits Duilio's home, meets his family, and they become good friends. Lorenzo meanwhile meets a young woman, with whom he falls in love. However, the relationship with his girlfriend is not perfect and he chooses to break up with her as she is about to be married: her fiance and her agree on an open relationship. Lorenzo declines the offer. At the same time Lorenzo becomes much closer to Duilio, and they often spend time with each other. The boy is given books and other things and the boy in turn makes and gives his friend a carved boat and poems. The boy kisses his teacher in a farm building on the lips. The boy's sister returns and all three become friends. But many things change after Duilio’s stepmother begins to distrust Lorenzo and says as much to the father. Gradually at the request of the father, who knows that his son loves his teacher more than himself, they meet less often. Duilio has to work on his father's farm in the afternoon, but Duilio still needs Lorenzo and misses him. To get out of this difficult situation, Lorenzo decides to leave the village and Duilio forever. The mother realises that the teacher's feelings for the boy are pure and asks to be forgiven. The family say he is always welcome anytime. The boy knows his teacher will never return not that he can not return. The teacher rejects the idea of a loving but homosexual relationship with the boy and has to leave. The boy does not know why his friend will never come back and runs after the taxi. The teachers weeps at the lost love with a boy who tells him everything and trusts him totally.
In 1975, John Baker and his lover, Lenny, take John's children Angela and Peter on a boating trip. After the boat capsizes, John and the children attempt to swim ashore where Lenny is waiting for them, but they swim into the path of a reckless motorboat driver and are struck. We see that John and Peter are killed.
Billy Lynch (Jimmy McNichol) is a high school student who has been raised by his aunt since age three, after his parents died in a violent car accident. His Aunt Cheryl (Susan Tyrrell) is overly protective of her nephew. A gifted basketball player, Billy is offered a chance at a scholarship to attend the University of Colorado, but Cheryl dismisses the idea, assuming that Billy will stay with her to "contribute." At school, Billy is bullied by one of his basketball teammates, Eddie (Bill Paxton), who is jealous of Billy's close friendship with their coach, Tom Landers (Steve Eastin), while Julia (Julia Duffy), the school's journalism photographer, begins to take romantic interest in Billy.
