Ching Siu-tung (born 1953), also known as Tony Ching, is a Hong Kong action choreographer, actor, film director and producer, who has directed over 20 films, including the critically acclaimed supernatural fantasy A Chinese Ghost Story (1987). He produced the spectacular clip L'Âme-Stram-Gram the French star singer Mylène Farmer at a cost of € 1 million.
En 1982, il fait ses débuts dans la réalisation avec Duel to the Death, un film qui renouvelle le Wu Xia Pian. Avec Tsui Hark comme producteur au sein de la Film Workshop, il réinvente le film de fantômes avec la trilogie Histoire de fantômes chinois (remake du film de Li Han-hsiang L'Ombre enchanteresse), puis le wu xia pian avec la trilogie Swordsman.
En 1990, il réunit Gong Li et Zhang Yimou dans Terracotta Warrior, une histoire d'amour intemporelle ayant pour cadre le Mausolée de l'empereur Qin.
Au cours des années 2000, il participe en tant que chorégraphe au succès mondial de films tels que Shaolin Soccer de Stephen Chow, Hero, Le secret des poignards volants et La Cité interdite de Zhang Yimou.
Pour son travail de chorégraphe, il remporte d'ailleurs deux Hong Kong Film Award de la meilleure chorégraphie d'action : en 1991 pour Swordsman et en 2003 pour Hero.

Biography
Ching Siu-tung est le fils de Chen Kang, réalisateur pour la Shaw Brothers du film Les 14 Amazones. Il apprend les arts martiaux à Hong Kong dans une école d'Opéra de Pékin puis devient acteur et chorégraphe pour la télévision de Hong Kong.En 1982, il fait ses débuts dans la réalisation avec Duel to the Death, un film qui renouvelle le Wu Xia Pian. Dragon Nine, an imperial detective, is on his way back after concluding the case of the Thief Ghost. He encounters "Sword Saint" Yeh, who asks him to tell "Sword Deity" Simon to meet him for a duel on the night of the full moon at the highest rooftop of the Forbidden Palace. News of the upcoming duel between the two greatest swordsmen spread like wildfire and attract much attention, with people starting to place bets on the final outcome. A pulp serial author with numerous personal problems resulting in a serious case of writer's block, temporarily escapes reality by living vicariously through one of his lead characters in a story about a quest for a mythical scripture. This story within a story has Jet Li up against an enormous mutant rat, Japanese sumo wrestlers and ninjas, although the pen is mightier than the sword (or metal grill, as it were) in this film by famed director Ching Siu-tung.(Note the beginning description of the plot given here seems to be different from the English dubbed version).

The movie starts out with all of the gods in heaven complaining to the Jade Emperor about the malicious practical jokes played on them by Dragon Fighter Lohan. The Emperor summons Dragon's sworn-brother, Tiger Fighter Lohan (Ng Man Tat), in order to find Dragon. Dragon (Stephen Chow) eventually appears and rebuke the various gods for their horrible judgments on mankind. He insisted he can do a better job and is banished to be reincarnated into an animal by the Jade Emperor. The Bodhisattva Guan Yin (Anita Mui) intervene and issues Dragon a challenge. If he can change the fates of three people—a beggar, a prostitute, and a villain—doomed to nine incarnations as their current position in life within three heavenly days (thirty years), without heavenly powers, he will be upgraded in heavenly status. If he fails, he will be downgraded from an arhat to an animal. The Bodhisattva gives him a magical fan that can only be used three times a day for sleight-of-hand-like magic tricks to help him in his mission. However, heavenly soldiers force him down from heaven before he has the fan in hand.

Sung (Chow) is by far the best lawyer in Guangdong and the outlying areas of Southeast China.
