Sahabzade Irrfan Ali Khan (born 7 January 1967), credited as Irrfan Khan or simply Irrfan, is an Indian film actor known for his works predominantly in Hindi cinema. He is also known for his works in British films, and Hollywood. Khan was the guest of honour at the 2014 River to River. Florence Indian Film Festival. Film critics, contemporaries, and other experts consider him as one of the finest actors in Indian cinema for his versatile and natural acting. In 2011, Khan received the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian honour for his contribution to the field of arts.
Khan has garnered the National Film Award for Best Actor in the 60th National Film Awards 2012, for his performance in Paan Singh Tomar. Khan has won the 2014 Asian Film Award for Best Actor, three International Indian Film Academy Awards, three Filmfare Awards, an Independent Spirit Award nomination, and various international honours. He also hosted a Television show and commercials. As of 2015, he had appeared in more than 30 Indian films in Bollywood, and few regional films, such as Life of Pi & Jurassic World. Recently, he has been appointed as the brand ambassador for "Resurgent Rajasthan", a campaign by the state government of Rajasthan.

The rest of us would be hanging around gossiping." Even now, as he reads through at least one new Hollywood script a week, he believes in doing his homework, staying up till 3 in the morning, taking notes, trying to understand ways to play his character. Sikdar recalls how he would demand as many as 11 rewrites from her when he directed episodes of Banegi Apni Baat. "Once he dragged me to a police station in Mumbai to understand procedure," she recalls. Recently, he has changed his name to Irrfan. He also said he likes the sound of the extra "r" in his name.

Biography
On 23 February 1995, Khan married writer and fellow NSD graduate Sutapa Sikdar. They have two sons, Babil and Ayan.Sikdar said about him, "He was always focused. After the passing away of her parents, Simran Malhotra lives a wealthy lifestyle with her uncle, Rajendra. She has always won beauty pageants during her college days, and when an opportunity arises, she enters her name in a local beauty contest. This news is not welcomed by fellow-collegian, Tanya Khurana, who has always been the runner-up. She confides to her brother, Ajit, who assures her that Simran will be made to change her mind. Ajit makes some intimidating phone calls and even threatens her in person when she is alone, but to no avail, Simran does take part in the contest, and wins again. This breaks Tanya's heart, and an enraged Ajit, who swears that he will only rest after he kills or seriously disfigures Simran. Simran, her friend, Kajal, along with Sameer and Kunal decide to go to Khandala to celebrate Simran's win, and when the boys go to get something to eat, Ajit attacks Simran and Kajal, a scuffle ensues and Ajit is killed. The boys return and together they decide not to tell anyone, take the body to the railway tracks, leave it to be mauled by a train, and take Ajit's car to the nearest lake. Things do not go according to plan, and the youngsters end up hiding Ajit's body in the murky waters of the swimming pool.

Arjun Singh (Aftab Shivdasani) and the Srivastav brothers, Raghu (Emraan Hashmi) and Shekhar (Rahul Dev), are neighbors in a gangster-prone area in Mumbai. When Arjun's union leader father is killed, the brothers urge him to avenge his death. They get a sword and find the killers and kill them. Arjun is the prime suspect in this homicide and the brothers get him to run to Delhi, where he begins a new life as a Real Estate Agent, Mohan Kumar Sharma. Years later, Arjun returns to Mumbai and is welcomed with open arms by Raghu and Shekhar, who are now leading gangsters by their own right. Arjun also renews his romance with the estranged Srivastavs' sister, Sanjana (Bipasha Basu). Sanjana would like Arjun and her brothers to go straight, and Arjun agrees with her and he starts to work on Raghu - the more flexible of the two - and partially succeeds - especially since Raghu is romantically involved with a school-teacher, who will have nothing to do with him unless he gives up all criminal activity. Raghu is seriously considering going straight when Shekhar gives him the devastating news, that Arjun is not who he claims to be - but a plainclothes police officer, who is out to get them by hook or by crook.

Sultana (Sadiya Siddiqui), a small town prostitute and her pimp Khudabaksh migrate to the metropolis bringing with them their dreams and meagre belongings. The plot is a copy of the 1985 Hollywood thriller Jagged Edge & The Kannada film Antima Ghatta] (1987) starring Shankar Nag, Urvashi and Tara. The film starts with the murder of Priti, wife of Shekhar (Aftab Shivdasani), a wealthy and well-known journalist. Inspector Lokhande (Ashutosh Rana) investigates the case and accuses Shekhar of the murder, saying he has enough evidence to arrest and convict him. However upon getting bail from the court, Shekhar asks his lawyer to fight his case for him however his lawyer tells him that he will not be able to fight his case because he is a corporate lawyer and only fights civil cases. He suggest he ask Simran Bhargav (Lisa Ray), who is a very skilled criminal lawyer in his firm to fight his case.

Gustad Noble (Roshan Seth) is a Parsi bank clerk who lives with his family in Bombay (Mumbai) just before the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. At first he seems to be a self-centred, self-involved, neurotic man who is so tied up in his own pain for perceived slights both past and present that he cannot seem to connect with either friends or family. Soon the Major contacts Gustad, ostensibly to restore their friendship, but in actuality he uses their past acquaintance to impose on Gustad for help in a clandestine plan to put money into the hands of rebels in East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) When Gustad has second thoughts and tries to back out of the plan, the family cat is killed in a gruesome way and left for Gustad to find with a threatening note attached.
