Kajol Devgan (née Mukherjee) (born 5 August 1974), known mononymously as Kajol, is an Indian film actress who predominantly works in Hindi cinema. She has received six Filmfare Awards, among eleven nominations and along with her late aunt Nutan, holds the record for most Best Actress wins at Filmfare, with five. In 2011, the Government of India awarded her with the Padma Shri.
Born to actress Tanuja and film director Shomu Mukherjee, Kajol made her acting debut with Bekhudi (1992), while still in school. She subsequently quit her studies to pursue acting, and had her first commercial success with Baazigar (1993). She subsequently earned wide public recognition for playing leading roles in several blockbusters, including Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995), Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998), and Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham... (2001). Her performances in these films earned her three Filmfare Awards in the Best Actress category. She earned critical appreciation for playing against type in the 1997 mystery film Gupt and the 1998 psychological thriller Dushman.
Following a sabbatical from full-time acting in 2001, Kajol returned to film with the 2006 romantic thriller, Fanaa, for which she received a fourth Filmfare Award for Best Actress. She continued working infrequently through the rest of the decade, playing leading roles in such films as U Me Aur Hum (2008), We Are Family and My Name Is Khan (both 2010). Her performance in the latter earned her a fifth Best Actress award at Filmfare. She, thus, established herself as one of India's most successful female actors.
In addition to acting in films, Kajol is a social activist and is noted for her work with widows and children, for which she received the Karmaveer Puraskaar in 2008. She has featured as a talent judge for Zee TV's reality show, Rock-N-Roll Family and holds a managerial position at Devgn Entertainment and Software Ltd. She is known in the Indian media for not subscribing to stereotypes of a Bollywood heroine and has hence been labelled as "unconventional". Kajol has been in a relationship with actor Ajay Devgn since 1995. In 1999, they married, and she gave birth to their daughter, Nysa, in 2003 and their son, Yug, in 2010.
Following her marriage, Kajol moved in with Devgn and his parents at the latter's ancestral house in Juhu. While media members speculated about a lack of compatibility between her in-laws and her, Kajol clarified that they were "like parents to me" and encouraged her to continue working in films. Tabloids have often romantically linked Devgn with other Bollywood actresses, and have reported about an imminent divorce. Refuting the rumours, Kajol stated, "I don't believe in those rumours because I know the way this industry functions. [...] You cannot continue a marriage without the basic trust. Frankly, I don't care for such talk."
In 2001, Kajol was pregnant with her first child. However, due to an ectopic pregnancy, she suffered from a miscarriage. On 20 April 2003, Kajol gave birth to a daughter, Nysa. Kajol began dating fellow actor, Ajay Devgn, in 1994, while filming for Gundaraj. Members of the media, however, labelled them as an "unlikely pair" due to their contrasting personalities. Devgn explained their relationship by saying, "We never resorted to the usual 'I Love you' routine. A proposal never happened. We grew with each other. Marriage was never discussed, but it was always imminent". They subsequently got married on 24 February 1999 in a traditional Maharashtrian style ceremony at the Devgan house. The wedding was subject to wide media scrutiny, as certain members of the media criticised Kajol's decision to settle down at the "peak of her career". Born and brought up in a small village by foster parents, Vikram alias Vicky (Saif Ali Khan) comes to Bombay - the big city - to find his fortune. He wants to get rich soon, and he does get lucky when fate, and his confidence, courage and good looks land him a job with a politician cum criminal named Masterji (Dalip Tahil). He also meets a bar dancer named Anita Vaishnavi Mahant and love blossoms. Masterji starts him off with petty crimes, just to ensure his capabilities. Through his hard work and dedication, Vicky soon wins the respect of Masterji and his colleagues, especially one trusted man of Masterji named Vinayak More (Viju Khote). He soon becomes "Bambai ka babu" Then Vicky is entrusted with a task of subduing Masterji's rival, Jaya Shetty (Vishwajeet Pradhan), which he does easily. Then instead of being disposed off, Jaya is asked to make friends with Masterji, so as to benefit the latter. But soon Vicky comes to know of Masterji's plan with Jaya to incite communal violence as a means of indirectly winning the elections, he decides to sabotage their plans. Angered at this, Masterji orders the death of Vicky at any cost. Vicky has nowhere to turn to, except to live in fear for the rest of his life, as sooner or later Jaya and Masterji's men will track him down.

Ajay Chauhan lives with his parents and younger sister. He is in love with Pooja, and hopes to marry her someday. His father wants him to get a job and settle down, and then get married. Ajay applies for a job in Bombay, and soon receives a letter asking him to appear for an interview. He attends the interview, and is hired. Delighted to see all his dreams coming true, he goes to offer his thanks to God, and it is there a woman named Pratika Jetley sees him and notifies the police that he is indeed the one who had brutally raped three young women in a college campus. Ajay vehemently denies this, but is personally identified and criminally held responsible, convicted and sentenced to prison. Several years later he is released from prison, and finds out that his father and Pooja had committed suicide while his mother and sister are untraceable. He sets out to put his life together and meets with a ruthless police inspector, whose daughter was one of the rape victims. It is then Ajay finds out about the conspiracy behind this plot to frame him.

Deva (Ajay Devgan) est orphelin : son père, qui maltraitait sa mère, a été tué par son épouse. L’officier de police Siddhant (Vinod Khanna) et son épouse Pushpa (Navni Parihar) ont alors adopté Deva et l’ont élevé aux côtés de leur propre fils Karan (Ronit Roy) qui déteste Deva. Contrairement à Siddhant, Deva désapprouve les lois et la justice qui lui ont arraché sa mère. Adultes, les deux frères prennent des chemins opposés : Karan fréquente des jeunes bandits tandis que Deva vit une douce romance avec Sharmili (Kajol). Un jour, Niranyan (Arif Khan), un des amis de Karan et fils du puissant gangster Shobhraj (Amrish Puri) est inculpé pour viol et meurtre. Shobhraj use de toute son influence auprès du politicien Om Gautam (Alok Nath) mais Siddhant refuse de libérer Nirayan. Un bras de fer entre Shobhraj et Siddhant commence. Bientôt, Siddhant surprend Karan, pistolet en main, aux côtés d’une jeune fille étendue morte. Sûr de la culpabilité de son fils, Siddhant le fait mettre en prison. L'histoire tourne autour de la question du choix d'un mariage de raison et du respect filial opposé au mariage romantique. Contrairement à bien d'autres scénarios où l'on voit le père s'opposer farouchement au mariage romantique, ici la décision du fils est acceptée mais lourde de conséquence car celui-ci perd son statut aux yeux de son père qui s'estime bafoué dans son honneur. Avec le temps, les choses évoluent, mais les blessures ne seront cicatrisées qu'à l'arrivée de la petite fille issue de cette union problématique.
