Seizō Fukumoto (福本 清三, Fukumoto Seizō), né le 3 février 1943 à Kyoto, est un acteur japonais.

Biography

Seizō Fukumoto a commencé sa carrière d'acteur à l'âge de 15 ans à Kyoto. Spécialisé dans les films et téléfilms du genre jidai-geki, soit situé à l'époque Edo, il a le plus souvent interprété des personnages de rōnin, bien que sa riche carrière lui a permis d'endosser tous les rôles du genre. Il a un talent particulier pour le kirareyaku, soit le personnage qui perd le combat d'épée. Néanmoins, Seizō Fukumoto apparaît aussi dans des drames modernes en tant que policier ou yakuza. En 2003, il interprète le rôle du samouraï silencieux dans le film américain Le Dernier Samouraï.

In 1950 Hiroshima City, Shoji Yamanaka is involved in a fight over cheating in a card game and stabs several men. He is sentenced to two years in prison, where he befriends Shozo Hirono. When he is released from prison, the waitress at a restaurant offers to let him eat for free but a gang led by Katsutoshi Otomo, the rebellious son of Choji Otomo, beat him. He is saved by Otomo senior and is offered to join the yakuza by Muraoka, the waitress Yasuko's uncle. Yamanaka serves under Muraoka's sworn brother Kunimatsu Takanashi, until he is chased out of Hiroshima by Muraoka for beginning a romantic relationship with the widowed Yasuko.

In Hiroshima Prefecture September 1960, temporary leader of the Muraoka yakuza family Fumio Sugihara is assassinated while walking with Shozo Hirono and Muraoka member Noburo Uchimoto. At Sugihara's funeral, one of the guests vomits on Sugihara's remains and hastily leaves the ceremony. The others know that the man was beaten by Sugihara and probably vomited on purpose. Hirono and fellow Muraoka members Hiroshi Matsunaga and Akira Takeda ask Uchimoto, the sworn brother of the deceased, to take care of the man, but he cowardly refuses much to their anger.

The Oumi Kingdom, ruled peacefully by Lord Ogata (Shinichiro Hayashi), was raided by his corrupt general Daijo Yuki (Bin Amatsu), who is assisted by an evil ninja named Orochimaru (Ryūtarō Ōtomo), who slays the lord and his wife, who in turn trust their young son Ikazuchi-Maru to their soldiers, who escape the kingdom in a small boat. Orochimaru goes after them, transforming into a giant serpent. He sinks the boat and almost succeeds in killing Ikazuchi-Maru, until a giant eagle flies along, injures Orochimaru, and saves the young boy.
