Synopsis
La jeune Ai Akai rève de devenir chanteuse, mais elle ne fait que des scéances de photos. Sa meilleure amie lui écrit une chanson avant de mourir. Son agent fait tout pour qu'elle devienne chanteuse, et chante la chanson de son amie.Mais le premier fan d'Ai, qui "vit sa vie", ne l'entend pas de cette oreille, et l'empèchera de chanter cette chanson... Two men drink at a coffee shop late at night as the film recalls their recent sexual activities. The middle-aged man has just committed his first groping of a woman on a train, and the man in his mid-twenties has just broken up with his unfaithful girlfriend after forcing sex on her. The two speak to each other and the older man gradually becomes a nuisance to the younger man, intent on revealing more and more of his past. Unable to get rid of him, the younger man takes the older man on a late night motorcycle ride through Tokyo. Through a series of flashbacks, it becomes apparent to the audience that the younger man's girlfriend is having an affair with the older man.

Dai is the best fighter in the school. Every time he fights, Shiroishi is there with a big smile on his face. Dai thinks that Shiroishi is making fun of him, but in fact, he appreciates seeing all the violence that comes from fighting. Everybody bullies, makes fun of, and mocks Shiroishi, even the youngest on his karate course. But Shiroishi refuses to lose his temper and fight the others. Mushishi opens with Yoki and his mother walking along a mountain when a cliff suddenly collapses. This is followed by a nonlinear narrative that moves between the past and the present. A series of flashbacks reveal that only Yoki survived, coming under the care of Nui, who is a Mushishi (or Bugmaster)—an expert in Mushi, which are supernatural bug-like creatures that are invisible to most humans. She lives near a pond where there are two types of Mushi: a fish-like Ginko who swims in the darkness-like Tokoyami. Because Nui spent too long looking at the Ginko, one of her eyes and the color of her hair were altered by the shadow of Tokoyami. Eventually, Nui is swallowed by the Tokoyami. When Yoki tries to help her, he is also swallowed. Only by sacrificing one of his eyes and his memories is Yoki able to survive. He then renames himself Ginko because it is the only name he can remember.
