A Cab for Three (Spanish: Taxi para tres) is a 2001 Chilean film directed by Orlando Lubbert. It was Chile's submission to the 74th Academy Awards for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, but was not accepted as a nominee.

In West Dallas, Texas, 22-year-old drug dealer Chris Smith (Hirsch), desperate to pay his debt to loan sharks, decides to murder his mother, Adele, to collect the $50,000 of insurance money. He has been told by his mother's boyfriend Rex that the sole beneficiary will be Chris' younger sister Dottie (Temple). Assuming Dottie would share any money she gets with them, Chris manages to rope his dim-witted father Ansel (Haden Church) into a conspiracy to kill Adele – who is Ansel's ex-wife – to get the money. Chris also enlists the help of Joe Cooper (McConaughey), a police detective who has a side career as a contract killer. Ansel plans to split the money four ways between themselves, Dottie, and Ansel's new wife Sharla (Gershon). Dottie hears the plan as they are talking, and agrees that it's a good idea.

In May 1969, Lou Jean Poplin (Goldie Hawn) visits her husband Clovis Michael Poplin (William Atherton) to tell him that their son will soon be placed in the care of foster parents. The life of fat housewife Francine Fishpaw (Divine) is crumbling around her in her middle-class suburban Baltimore home. Her husband, Elmer (David Samson), is a polyester-clad lout who owns an X-rated theater, causing anti-pornography protesters to picket the Fishpaws' house. She also states that "all the neighborhood women spit at me" whenever she is at the shopping mall. Francine's children are Lu-Lu (Mary Garlington), her spoiled, slutty daughter, and Dexter (Ken King), her delinquent, glue-sniffing son who derives illicit pleasure from stomping on women's feet. The three meet each other for the first time at Mumbai's airport and decide to find a place together. Ce film raconte l'histoire de Nelly (Corinne Luchaire), jeune détenue rebelle au grand cœur, et d'Yvonne (Annie Ducaux), nouvellement promue directrice de maison de correction pour jeunes filles. Au début du film, Yvonne, jeune directrice aux méthodes novatrices, prend en charge la direction d'un établissement pénitentiaire pour jeunes filles situé dans les environs de Nice. Les sévices et autres brimades infligés aux pensionnaires par l'ancienne directrice et ses subordonnées ne font qu'envenimer la situation parmi les détenues. Ne supportant pas le traitement infligé à la pauvre Nelly, après une bagarre suite au déchargement d'un camion de charbon, Yvonne décide de faire appliquer sur-le-champ ses nouvelles méthodes « pédagogiques », ce qui a pour effet de rendre les détenues, la jeune Nelly en tête, plus calmes et civilisées. Nelly finit par se faire nommer « aide-soignante » dans l'infirmerie de la prison, et succombe vite au charme du docteur Guy Maréchal (Roger Duchesne), qui n'est autre que le fiancé d'Yvonne. Nelly, apprenant la liaison du médecin et d' Yvonne, choisit de ne pas dénoncer sa camarade Renée (Ginette Leclerc), laquelle a volé de l'alcool à l'infirmerie et s'est saoulée, non sans avoir semé la zizanie dans la prison. Par loyauté envers Yvonne qui n'est toujours pas au courant de sa liaison avec le docteur Maréchal, Nelly choisit de porter le chapeau pour le vol d'alcool. Mais Renée finit par tout avouer à Yvonne, qui choisit de pardonner à Nelly, et laisse partir son prétendant à Pondichéry sans elle. Tout ceci se conclut par la libération de la jeune Nelly, et conforte Yvonne dans ses méthodes humanistes de directrice de prison.
