Bhoothakkannadi (Malayalam: ഭൂതക്കണ്ണാടി, Translation:Magnifying glass) is a 1997 Malayalam film directed by Lohithadas. It tells the story of Vidyadharan (Mammootty), a clocksmith's incapability to deal with the harsh realities of his life. This was Lohithadas's first movie as a director and was critically acclaimed. Lohithadas won the Indira Gandhi Award for Best First Film of a Director at the National Film Awards. It won the Kerala State Film Award for Best Film in 1997. Mammootty won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor.

Synopsis

The movie opens with Vidyadharan serving the jail imprisonment for a murder.

Royal Circus, owned by Govindan (T S Raju), is on rocks. With the help of his manager Khader (Mamukkoya), Govindan just manages to run the company, though not in a satisfactory manner. And of course Babu, deep in his heart, has feelings of love for Kamala.The movie takes a turn when Sudheer Misra (Nishanth Sagar), the young son of Padmini (Reena), a former member of the troupe makes his entry into the camp. Sudheer's arrival marks the beginnings of change. He steers the company out of its crisis and gives it a new form and name as New Royal Circus.
