Synopsis
The "Caravana Rollidei", is a traveling show made up of a magician Lord Gypsy, the exotic dancer Salomé, and the mute strongman Swallow drive their van into a small town along the Rio Sanfransico. They perform in the town, afterwards a local accordion player, Cico, begs Lord Gypsy to let him join them, and Lord Gypsy does. They then go to Masio to see the ocean, and completely fail to find any business.Actors

The film is based on the novel Memórias do Distrito de Diamantina, written by João Felicio dos Santos (who has a small role in the film as a Roman Catholic pastor). It is a romanticized retelling of the true story of Chica da Silva, an 18th-century African slave in the state of Minas Gerais, who attracts the attention of João Fernandes de Oliveira, a Portuguese sent by Lisbon with the Crown's exclusive contract for mining diamonds, and eventually becomes his lover. He quickly asserts control, letting the intendant and other authorities know that he's onto their corruption scheme. Eventually Lisbon hears of João's excesses and sends an inspector. José, a political radical, provides Xica refuge.

The staff of a dubbing studio celebrates the arrival of an acclaimed show called The Mary Shadow Show. To dub the main character, Dalila (Zezé Motta) indicates her neighbor Marialva (Marília Pêra), who adopts the name "Mary Mattos" as she dreams of becoming a Hollywood star. Veerasimhan (M. K. Radha) and Sasankan (Ranjan) are the sons of a king. While passing through a village on his horse, Veerasimhan meets a village dancer named Chandralekha (T. R. Rajakumari) and they fall in love. At the palace, the king decides to abdicate in favour of Veerasimhan. This enrages the younger brother Sasankan; he forms a gang of thieves who embark on a crime spree. Chandralekha's father is injured in the ensuing chaos and dies soon after. Chandralekha, now orphaned, joins a band of travelling musicians, whose caravan is raided by Sasankan's men.
