Chained is a 2012 Canadian psychological thriller–slasher film directed by Jennifer Lynch that stars Vincent D'Onofrio, Julia Ormond, and Eamon Farren. D'Onofrio plays a serial killer who kidnaps and adopts a young boy, eventually turning him into his protege.

Synopsis

Nine-year-old Tim and his mother Sarah are brought to the cinema by his father Brad (Jake Weber) who urges them to take a taxi instead of a bus when going home. After the show, Sarah wants to call a taxi but one is already arriving. They enter it but instead of bringing them home the driver, Bob (Vincent D'Onofrio), abducts them into his home. There he kills Sarah and makes Tim his slave for his housework, threatening him with violence if he does not obey, giving him the new name "Rabbit". Tim tries to escape later, Bob even encourages him to run away, but then Tim is afraid to do this when he notices that nobody can hear him far away from the city. Bob continues to be a serial killer abducting young girls, raping and killing them at his home.

Apothecary Films provided the following plot summary: "Detective Michael Tabb knows the city of St. Louis inside and out. He has felt its true heart, as much as its dark underbelly: but he does not know who, in both the dark and light - is taking the lives of young girls. He only knows that their burned and broken bodies are washing ashore along the Mississippi River, never to return home. He wears the scars of the one time he got close. Now, he's living in the darkness himself, perhaps too deeply. His physical pain is matched only by the pain he feels each time another young girl goes missing or washes ashore. Self-medicating to both ward away and embrace this killer, he falls farther from his light. Truth be told, the closer he comes to death by his own hand, the closer he gets to solving the murders."

An ancient and diabolic spiritual being, Azazel, is supernaturally condemned to eternally transmigrate at will between unwitting and susceptible human souls who act as hosts for possession. On rare occasions, Azazel's spiritual transmigration is blocked by an unreceptive human host who appears to be immune. These rare exceptions become special targets for Azazel's sustained spiritual stalking through subtler means.
