Close Escape is a 1989 Hong Kong crime action film directed by Chow Chun Wing and starring Max Mok, Michael Miu and Aaron Kwok, who acts in his debut film role.
Synopsis
Lam Wai Tung has cancer. In order to raise money for his younger brother Wai Leung to study medicine overseas, he robs some diamond for smuggler Chiu Ying Kau. After the robbery, he hides the real diamonds himself and gives fake diamonds to Chiu, which he then finds out and kills Tung. In order to recover the diamonds, Chiu sets a scheme and makes Leung a murder suspect and arranges his Japanese female subordinate Miko to save him and hide him and nurse his gunshot wounds. Under Miko's attentive treatment, Leung heals and they establish a profound friendship.Actors

Ace marksmen Lee Kin-wah (Andy Lau) manages to prevent a potential slaughter due to his exceptional sharp-shooting skills. Though his immediate superior is angry at the cavalier attitude Wah displayed during the operation, the powers-that-be decide to promote the young police officer to their special arms unit, B.O.B. Along with his cheeky best friend Wai (Michael Miu), Wah joins the newly formed special unit that is trained to deal with expected terrorist attacks. Although he was the best in his former unit, Wah finds that there are a few rivals keen to undermine his glowing reputation. He also finds his arrogance attracting attention from the specially employed tactical researcher Jennifer Tang (Rosamund Kwan) whose knowledge of the enemy is constantly undermined by the self-centered Wah. Such petty rivalries are put to one side when I.B.S, an international terrorist collective, plan to attack a controversial politician. The special police unit go into action against the threat, but there are tragic casualties.

Three years ago, Lee Sam was a triad leader who was victimized by his enemy when leads him arrested and imprisoned. Upon his release, he single handedly takes revenge and flees to Taiwan afterwards and takes refugee from Billy Lee, whom he helped before. Sam decides to conceal his identity and leave the underworld but Billy is belligerent and repeatedly makes fuss and finds newcomer Crow to be his scapegoat. Crow has nothing to do all the time and always dreams of becoming a triad leader. Crow is then appreciated by Billy for being his scapegoat and his reputation rises which gets Billy jealous and arranges him to assassinate a police officer in Hong Kong. Billy plans a collateral kills Crow's girlfriend and older sister. The anger of Sam and Crow forces them to be back in the underworld.

Bond Cheung (Vanness Wu) is a high school student in Hong Kong who has a strong passion for Muay Thai kick boxing. He trains at a local boxing gym, and is instructed by the Kong Ching team trainer Lau (Gordon Liu), in an effort to be a competitor in the Star Runner Pan Asian Martial Arts Competition. While attending summer courses, he is attracted to his new Korean teacher Kim Mei Chiu (Kim Hyun-Joo). It is revealed that she is recovering from a break-up in Korea with a former lover and has come to Hong Kong to start over. The two start off as friends, but after a series of fateful events occur, feelings spark, and they eventually begin seeing one another, in spite of the controversy that it creates. Then abruptly, Bond is kicked off the Kong Ching team, regarding with his coach's financial troubles, which angers him and believes that his chance in entering the competition is gone. Soon after, he is confronted by an unexpected new trainer Bill (Max Mok Siu Chung), a washed-up but well experienced former martial arts champion. After some compensation, Bill teaches Bond Chinese Kung Fu (Wing Chun, Hong Kuen) as alternative and effective fighting techniques to his kick boxing. Regained confidence, Bond then decides to enter the competition on his own, with Bill as his advisor and cornerman and they become the team Fusion Tao. The event draws entries of 18 boxing organizations from 12 countries, along with its most lethal fighter Tank Wong (Andy On) from Soul Boxing Gym team. As his relationship with Kim becomes stable, Kim's former lover sees her again, asking for forgiveness, saying that he still loves her. With her feelings torn, she decides to go back to Korea with him, but is still having second thoughts about her feelings for Bond. In the competition however, competitors are slowly eliminated one by one, as the epic fight between Bond and Tank draws closer and what will determine both fighters' destiny.

Lap and Wei were childhood buddies who grew up training together in the state-sponsored martial arts troupe. Wei felt there was no future in the troupe and plotted to remain illegally in the USA when the troupe was on a performance tour. Lap found out at the airport just before their return flight and tried to stop Wei. Lap not only failed to dissuade Wei, he also became the unwitting scapegoat after Wei unintentionally killed an airport police. Both went separate paths.

In Macau, criminal Tong Heung-tung of the Hunan Gang, who bombed the Hong Kong police headquarters, was being send back to Hong Kong by Kowloon OCTB inspectors Lee Ho-lung and Lo Mo. During the process, the police van was ambushed by the Hunan Gang who helped Tong escape. Li Bai (Dick Wei) is the creator and master of the 'Shi Zi So Hou Shou' (which basically is a ' Throat Locking Hand', otherwise known as 'Shaolin Hand Lock') who passes down the skill to his children Cheng Ying (David Chiang) and Meng Ping (Chen Ping). However, an old friend Fang Yun Biao (Chan Shen) visits Li Bai and manages to kill him by attacking the skills only weakness and unknowingly, also kills his two other students to whom he believed were Li Bai's children. After his children find out of the murder, Cheng Ying sets out to avenge his father. Travelling to Thailand to kill Fang and before that, gives him information of who hired him - the rich benevolent Lin Hao (Lo Lieh). In the process, he attracts Lin Hao into accepting him as a bodyguard by stealing and retaining in custody gold that belonged to Lin Hao. While suspected by other guards, Lin Hao remains in a difficult situation to find out if Li Bai's siblings are still alive and what Cheng Ying is really there for.
